My sons wife wants to get him a 1911 for his brithday,so she calls Pop for help,I recomend Colt, love to but they won't pass the Calif, drop test.(They live in the Republic of Kalifornia)He would like a Kimber but anybody seen their prices lately, pretty hard on a young couple. What the heck is wrong with that place,no Colts ? Isn't that un American ? So where can I go and find out which 1911's are legal in Kaliy, other than toys. Edited by Tikkabuck |

Tikka; There's this thing called the Second Amendment in the Bill of RIGHTS, appended to the Constitution of the United States Of America. It says that Colt 1911's are legal in California. Kalipornia just isn't with the program. Putting that aside, I'd presume that one would have to access the Kali DOJ site & find what meets their particular definition of insanity & advise her to get one of those. Or, they could move to Montana. There's gonna be a GIGANTIC whoop-de-do around here real soon now. This state just put a barbed wire suppository up the Federal gummint's butt & we're waiting for the reaction.

Unbelievable...the liberals in Action!!
The Kali drop test is as follows: 12128. As used in this chapter, the "drop safety requirement for handguns" means that at the conclusion of the firing requirements for handguns described in Section 12127, the same certified independent testing laboratory shall subject the same three handguns of the make and model for which certification is sought, to the following test: A primed case (no powder or projectile) shall be inserted into the chamber. For pistols, the slide shall be released, allowing it to move forward under the impetus of the recoil spring, and an empty magazine shall be inserted. For both pistols and revolvers, the weapon shall be placed in a drop fixture capable of dropping the pistol from a drop height of 1m + 1cm (39.4 + 0.4 in.) onto the largest side of a slab of solid concrete having minimum dimensions of 7.5 X 15 X 15 cm (3 X 6 X 6 in.). The drop distance shall be measured from the lowermost portion of the weapon to the top surface of the slab. The weapon shall be dropped from a fixture and not from the hand. The weapon shall be dropped in the condition that it would be in if it were dropped from a hand (cocked with no manual safety applied). If the design of a pistol is such that upon leaving the hand a "safety" is automatically applied by the pistol, this feature shall not be defeated. An approved drop fixture is a short piece of string with the weapon attached at one end and the other end held in an air vise until the drop is initiated. The following six drops shall be performed: (a) Normal firing position with barrel horizontal. (b) Upside down with barrel horizontal. (c) On grip with barrel vertical. (d) On muzzle with barrel vertical. (e) On either side with barrel horizontal. (f) If there is an exposed hammer or striker, on the rearmost point of that device, otherwise on the rearmost point of the weapon. The primer shall be examined for indentations after each drop. If indentations are present, a fresh primed case shall be used for the next drop. The handgun shall pass this test if each of the three test guns does not fire the primer. |

freak'n california. they say sooner or later, it'll drop off into the ocean. i would imagine some of the most nonsense gun control garbage would go along with it so ... happy swimming. was an interesting article in the latest handguns annual mag debunking some generally accepted myths regarding the 1911 platform. of course, the drop'n fire myth was addressed. pretty interesting. even with claims that the inertial firing pin can be brought to action by impact, testing up to 9 foot drops showed no marking what-so-ever on the primer. freak'n california (and states like them).

The quick way would be to get on the phone to a big California gun shop and tell them you are going there and want your son to come in and pick out a piece. Ask what they sell in the 1911 style and general prices.

I would think a Series 80 would be legal in California due to the FP block, which is designed to prevent just such a discharge. Kimbers have a swartz type FP block. I take 'em out of all my pistols anyhoo, so I guess I couldn't be legal in Calywood.

nothing against our gun owning friends in these states as individuals but when i look at the landscape in general, i don't waste time differentiating it all out, 24mod12. if a states elected officials are a real and proven threat to my gun ownership privileges, the folks living in that state as a whole are guilty by association. after all, they (as a majority) voted their people in. anything major that comes down the line as far as gun suppression legislation on a national level will be voted into law by the radical, heavily populated states like california that have the voting numbers. which is what really sucks. none of the garbage out there being threatened now would ever fly in montana. none of it. yet, we're going to be drug "into the sewer" (to use your words) completely against our will simply because the sane states have the least voting power. it's really an odd, scary position to be in living in a state that is so pro-gun, pro-hunting and pro-ownership just to know that it could all crumble one day not because of anything we did, but because of what's been decided for us. ya often hear conversation of another civil war when these 2a issues are discussed, if and when what we have now turns bad and then turns even worse. i really don't think it's that far fetched of an idea. |

Well I hate Califonians...all of 'em. They can't elect anyone who ain't made at least one movie, and they won't step back and let them govern afterwards! They gotta proposition this, proposition that until doing what needs to be done is impossible for anybody. Then, there's the fact that sooner or later, every woman in California stops shaving her legs. It's like a sickness. And I don't care what anyone says, tofu makes hair grow. Thank God there are still beaches with young, un-corrupted wimmins running around with clean shaven lower extremities, but those are few and far between nowadays. Once the Californian establishment gets its way, there won't be any income at all after taxes, and every beaver will be a bush!

Well I hate Califonians...all of 'em. Now that's painting with a broad brush. Mule, you'd wear me out of I believed something like that. (I do) What I tell gun owners from kalifornia is to MOVE. They remain, so they reap what they sow. I don't want to hear about the jobs they now hold, if they were any good, they could find a comparable job somewhere else. The sooner kalifornia drops off the end of the country, the sooner there will be one less wart on the ass of America....................Kingpin |
