Hey Taz,,

I didn't know the 275 Rigby was still chambered. That's cool!!! My opening day rifle is gonna be my 6.5mm Remington Magnum. I'm going after Mule deer opening weekend and will take a 7mm Remington Magnum as my second gun, and probably just for the hell of it take the 45-70 in case I want to prowl around the creek beds or other thick nasty stuff,,,,,BH

in order of openers...

antelope: 25-06 (rem 700 bdl), black hills deer: platoon 7 mag (sav 110) and 30-30 (marlin 336), mule deer: 300 wsm (if i get it done) - and that is a win 70 of some sort, whitetail: 357 magnum (s&w 686).

of course, these are all subject to change... for example, my brother wants to watch a deer get thumped w/ a 30-30, and he will only be able to accompany me on my whitetail hunt... so there is a possibility that i'll use the marlin there. also, i have a couple lines out right now, trolling for a 338 rum and a 338 win... if i can get hooked up w/ one of these, there is a chance that it will be used this year, too... we'll see.

Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

hmm,

   Order specific,

223 single shot N.E.F to smoke a few coyotes, 300WSM Abolt (loving called the nail gun) for Muledeer, and finally the 358 Win BLR (thumper) for Whitetail.

On the scatter gun side

There can be only one - 12 guage Super Black Eagle for dove, rabbit, pheasant, duck, turkey, geese, ... (dubbed last year to be the "angle of death")               i.e. it fly's it dies

I have no idea.  These are the new things that have yet to experience big game hunting, so either one would be nice to use.

Probably leaning towards the Savage .270 right now.

The .307 and 7mm RUM could be used if the right situation presented itself.  If I get to the river bottoms this year for some close up contact, I'll take the .307.  Would certainly like to see the 160 gr. AccuBond performance from the RUM on deer.  But it would have to be a benchrest type set-up.  I ain't trumping that things around the hills, that's for sure.

Same with the 200 gr. AccuBond on elk from the Warbird.  If the permit is drawn, I'll have to scramble with load development there.

I don't know.  To early to tell, I guess.  We'll see what's in hand come first light.  >>  klallen

What opening day?
For dove, my Chamber's Pennsylvania Fowler.
Whitetail? I don't know. Could be my '94 .444, could be
a 96 Mauser in 6.5x55. Maybe my Mosin sniper. haven't made up my mind yet.
Likely I will use several rifles during the course of whitetail season.

Normally I would be carrying my Ruger M77V in .25-06 but due to a possible bear problem I will be carrying either my father's customized 1917 Enfield .30-06 or my .300 Weatherby Magnum. Either loaded with 180 grain Nosler Partitions. Lawdog

SAKO .300 Win Mag. It's comfortable, quick, and accurate. That's a combo that's hard to beat.....Kingpin

Mathews FX 75 lb. 30" draw, left handed model. Ammo is Gold Tip 7595 shafts with Wasp Hammer SST 100 gn. broadheads. Total arrow weight 420 grains. Speed 273 FPS.

That's for elk. If I get out for deer I'll probably take my .30-06 Sako Finbar. If I get time to rifle hunt for elk (my archery hunt is out of state) I'll take my custom .300 SuperMag.

I've got a .22-250 that needs to see a coyote or some rodents but time is an issue.

Hmmmm let me see. Which opening day? The one in my secret spot or the one in regular old new hampshire? In the secret spot it will be my Ruger m77mk2 lefty .30-06 backed up by a Ruger Blackhawk .45LC with a 4 5/8" barrel. For regular NH deer season, probably my Marlin 336A in .30-30 backed up by a Ruger Blackhawk .45 LC with a 4 5/8" barrel.

bearhunter - i gotta be totally honest here. all my research points to the fact that 7x57mm, 7mm mauser and the .275 rigby are all the same chambering.

because of the classic ring that "rigby" has, and because a few people here regard the 7x57 as a plain-jane girls gun, i have taken to calling my cz a .275 rigby.

Fella's;

I do believe that for opening day of antelope season, it'll be my .30-06.  And for the opening day of deer season, why I'm almost sure to be using my .30-06.  But for the opening day of elk season, I'll have to change over to my .30-06.  Oh dear, how boring.

I'll bet you shoot that .275 Rigby with your little pinky
stuck straight out and your nose in the air! Much better than we
commoners who are forced to get by with 7x57 mausers!

I'll be driven a Ford F 150. Will be shooting a 1885 in 260 Rem. or a 35 Whelen in a 7600. Either is more than I need for a whitetail in the bushes.
