Looking over my decoys, for opener.  been hunting these for about 24 years.

Lightweight foldable foam.  Just two shot holes, probably 30+ dumb birds liked them to death.

But, remembered last fall walking thru Cabelas.  An older couple were looking at turkey decoys.  I asked if they needed any help, they were glad.  seems they wanted t get son-in-law some decoys for present.

They were looking at buying two at $78 each.  these were big beautiful birds.  rigid and weights about 6# each.

I suggested getting 4 foam/foldables.  Reason was unless you drive a pickup into an area, the ones they looked at were bulky and heavy.  Who wants to drive a vehicle into a turkey roost at dawn?

Saw hem leave an hour later in the parking lot, each carrying those beautiful back yard birds.

I have a Flexatone that is over 25 years old. It blows up very fast by mouth. Mine is so old most the colors have faded and it looks mostly dull brown. I think out turkeys are not as smart as most maybe there just seldom hunted.
My box call is about the same vintage and I have no idea what I'm saying to the turkeys but it seams to work.

The few times I've hunted turkeys it seemed like they were, like Bear said, more interested in sex than what they were going to have sex with looked like. As long as the decoys somewhat resembled a girl turkey they wanted to check them out.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

I don't know about other areas BUT here the Gobblers are not picky about who or what they beat up on when they are out cruising for sex in the spring time. The toms come up to the (in my case rubber type) decoys & attack them with vigor. Don't seem to notice they are not fighting back or not even breathing!!!
My turkey decoys are about 20+yrs old & still attract toms. Not really faded tho cuz I keep them put away the other 50wks when not hunting with them....not exposed to sunlight.

Just a thought.  I spray paint the necks on my jake decoys BRIGHT flame red.   Seems to work better in distracting a gobble as he comes in.
