I think my Ruger 22 stock is touching my barrel when I use my clip on bipods. I mount them on a rail at the very end of my stock. It is very "limber" out there. I normally get under an inch with everything I shoot, but it opens up a lot when I'm using the bipods. It doesn't do it off a bag, I think, because it is farther back on the stock. I like the stock because it is so LIGHT. I have a plan... I'm going to get some carbonfiber arrow shaft blanks. Take the stock off and rough out the plastic webs just enough for the tubes to clear the barrel. I don't want to fill in the entire front of the stock because of the weight. I'll epoxy the tubes into the existing web that is left and to the end of each tube to stop it from moving, hoping to keep most of the stock channel empty. In my mind, that should stiffen it up a lot. I may file some more stock for extra room. What do you think? I tested my planned load to get the speed average for the custom elevation caps I ordered. Target at 300 I was testing the speed on. I was on my bipods on a bench. I don't have the caps yet but I was using the 2nd hash for elivation. The Vortek site says that should be 300 yards.

I think using arrow shafts is a great idea. Post pictures of it when you do it. My Granddaughter has a Ruger that I'm sure has the same stock. If it works like I think it will I'll do the same thing to hers.

That's good shootin'. I'm looking forward to seeing how good the caps work.

Only thought is the shafts are hollow.  a solid would be stiffer.  those shafts are made to flex around the bow when fired.

I'd use 1/4" aluminum rods (available at Ace.).

JB weld or Bondo would also work.

Actually I found carbon fiber strips 5/16x1/8 18" long. I'll use 2 standing on edge and epoxyed in. It should de like an I beem. I don't want to fill it all in with epoxy because of weight. The strips are only a few ounces. I'm hoping to come in under a half pound more.

I hadn't thought about Bondo. I don't know about the "Bondo" brand but they make lightweight body filler. It dries as hard as regular body filler and it does weigh a lot less.

I'm sure carbon fiber strips and air are lighter than any body filler.
