If its not my boat screwing up then its my truck. First thing in the morning when i try to put it in reverse it grinds and when i go to change gears its hard to get it to shift. However at the end of the day it shifts in and out of gear no problem. Id hate to think that i have to pull the tranny off again but i replaced the clutch earlier this year and if it was the clutch i doubt id be able to change gears at all. Any suggestions. Its an 1986 Toyota 4x4 and its a hydraulic clutch system. I didnt replace the pressure plate if thats anything to do with it. Why didnt this happen earlier like a couple of months ago instead of the day before the gun season opener? Gary Edited by gary murray |

Gary; Two thoughts. One, the clutch is not properly adjusted. Doesn't fully release when cold but does when warm. Two, too heavy a gear oil in the tranny. Check the service info & find out what Toyota calls for in that application. 900F |

also might check the hydralic fluid level in the clutch pedal assembly. A small leak or air bubble will cause the same thing. Gary, do you have anything that doesn't break?????? Every morning you probably just look at two eggs and they break for breakfast. BEAR |

I dropped the tranny last night to get at my clutch and what a treat that was to do by myself. Them transfer cases sure make it alot more fun. Anyhow my pressure plate has lots of excessive wear on it. I replaced the clutch last winter but not the plate as the guy helping me back then said it looked pretty good. If anything major breaks on my truck again im selling it. Ive had so much trouble with it in the last two years that im on pins and needles when im driving long distances. Heres some examples. (Within the last two years) Blew my hub and bearings on my front right wheel, Timing chain went on it, starter, water pump, this is my second clutch problem, flange on my hydraulic clutch line broke, drive shaft dropped off and so on. Toyotas are great Bear. I like them so much that im on my 3rd engine with this one plus all the money ive spent on it to keep it going. It just gets annoying that something major seems to happen with it every 3 weeks or so. Gary |

Gary, when replacing the clutch PLATE, I always replace the pressure plate and the throw out bearing. They were usually put in at the same time and I ALWAYS replace them at the same time. The hydraulic clutch (in those cases where one is in place) always needs rebuilt. Replacing one of the above parts, without the others,) leaves you with some parts that are trying to figure out how to break at the same time. Japanese clutch parts couldn't be near as expensive as 14" chevy racing parts, although, I heve never owned a japanese auto..................................................Kingpi n

Gary, The 2005 Taco's are just about right, yotes last a good 15 years, since your pushing 20 metal fatigue is bound to catch up. Personally I hated rice burners, I owned 7 Ford trucks over the years, I moved to dodge, and finally tried a yote after a friend had good luck with one. I've had this one 7 years, might jump to a new one next year. So you said your on your 3rd Engine ? Did the old ones go bad?

Actually i failed to add oil to the first one (my stupidity) and the second one, the timing chain went on it and i figured it be better to get another engine instead of a chain. We were in a town called Golden heading to Calgary when it busted and all the repair shops try to soak you when they see a stanger in their neck of the woods. They quoted me 13 hours labour to replace the timing chain providing there was no interference from the chain to the linkage when it went. It didnt even take me that long to put the second enginge in my truck with a friend. I like my truck cause its good on gas. I find that Dodges, Fords and anything else over 4 cylinders drinks too much gas for what i can afford especially now that they are jacking gas prices up again. If i was ever to own another truck id like an older short box chevy or a Willys jeep. Hey maybe ill ask santa for an argo this year. Gary |

Well i got my tranny on. Also the engine to transmission brackets were broken so im going to weld those today. Oh what fun it is twisting and moving a tranny with a transfer case attached. I hope to make it out tomorrow for some moose hunting. Anyone wanna start wagering bets on what screws up next for me and how long it takes till it does? Gary |

Thanx T.G. I still need to do some adjusting on the clutch as the truck starts to move forward as soon as the clutch is almost disengaged completely. I havent forgotten about that decal for your handloaders group either. How did you want me to send it? Just post it or do you want me to email it to you? Gary |

Well, I got rid of the Ford a week ago, and bought a 2006 Toyota Tundra myself. I just hope to keep it 10 years, and then it's my son's. Hudge |

Gary, The only thing good about your vehicle stories are that there aren't happening to me. I just got back in town, hope hunting/truck went OK. but do you think that prior to winter you might check the hoses and belts, add some antifreeze, change the thermostat, and get an oil/filter change. Cars are like a women, if you don't take care for on the little stuff, them they will nag you on everything. BEAR
