Get a strong dead limb small enough in Dia. to slip the spring loops over. Wire the top spring so that it's about 6" below the ice hole. This will prevent the spring from freezing when the hole freezes over. Make sure that wire is long enough to go above the ice & be tied to a dead stop. You can wire some 1/2 peeled fresh twigs or an ear of corn to the trigger. Eye appeal is what you're after. When you set the conibear you might have to wire the spring loop of the bottom spring down so it doesn't flip up in the way. I guess the best way to descibe what it should look like is a channel set conibear standing up. When you chip out the hole becareful so you don't damage that big brown fuzzy thing just below the ice. Also when you 1st get to your set look for air bubbles in the hole under the ice. Air bubbles are good...because they were in a beaver.
