I have loaded my 45 Colt with 5.5 gr of unique and 250/55 gr bullets. Even if I go to 5gr of unique for target it stills has a fair report (Crack) in the rifle.

I came up with some Trail Boss and loaded min. 4.5gr and 5.0gr (Max 5.8) and a 250gr bullet. in the rifle all I hear is "PUFF"!

It just does not sound right and makes me wonder about the velocity.

Anyone load "Trail Boss"?

So far about all I can say is the 1# of powder was cheap compared to unique.

When I Work, I work hard.

When I sit, I sit loose.

But when I think, I fall asleep!

Trailboss is alright in the 45 but it doesn't deliver the accuracy of powders better suited for the cartridge.

Best check that bottle of TB, it's only 9 oz's and is actually a bit more expensive per pound than unigue.

The most expensive bullet there is isn't worth a plug nickel if it don't go where its supposed to.

I think Trail Boss was made for "soft" cowboy loads for those who want to pretend to shoot the BIG BORE but don't want the recoil to screw up their "back on target" timing..ie the gamer types.....7.5-8gr of Unique behind a 454190 250/255gr lead bullet is closer to "real".....w/o going BP.
