Unfortunately, to put a tent stake in or pull one out now requires me to kneel down or sit down.  I had been using an ancient heavy Hacket to put them in and pull them out.

So i thought there must be a better way.

I made two stake pullers, one rope the other hook.

the rope thing was simply a 4 inc piece of wooded oil well rod (jus had some hanging around.  But basically, a 5 inch piece of 1 1/4" dowel with a hole thru it and a 12" loop of para cord (kid is a sky diver instructor).

The hook model is and old plunger rod from a long broken caulking gun.  the back of the rod is into another 5" piece of dowel, with a nut on the back.

The hook works best, as it can twist as you pull, and its handle is long enough that I do not have to kneel, just bend a little.

My shakes are 10 inch SS that are polished so a twist releases a lot of pressure that hold them.  On Tuesday Ihad to put tent up in less that perfect spot and there were a number of hidden underground tree roots, large but somewhat rotten.  As it was evening when I put up, my discovery of the roots didn't make me change locations.  So two spikes were driven thru those hard holding roots.  the loop let me pull those standing up with legs providing all the force,

just some new tricks I've recently learned.

old dog new....

Thanks for the tip Bear.

I have noticed my stakes get harder to pull every year.

I think I'll try to come up with something like you described between now and next hunting season.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.
