I've found that lately surfing GunBroker.com leads to no good for me.
Long story short, I bought the Tanfoglio Excam .41AE last night. Looks like it's going to be a little bit more expensive of a round to reload for, but we'll piece it together slowly, if I must. Got 100 rounds of Speer and UZI factory stuff coming in next week so can use that to get familiar with the gun as components start to roll in. Anyway, here she be. Should be another fun one to toy with :

Morning TIKKA, don't know a heck of a lot about Browning semi-auto's. This Tan's another in the group of cz-75 clones. If that be Browning semi-auto's as well, then I guess they do look similar. The cartridge interested me most of all. I've never heard of one being used in my circle and seem to gravitate more towards those type of less-used cartridges as of late. Supposedly, the gun was only made and imported for 2 years ('89 - '90). Didn't waste any time confirming the accuracy of that claim. I just liked the look and the scarce cartridge. DAKOTA, don't know for sure, really. Not a whole lot of data out there for the round. 170 and 210 gr. bullet weights seem to be the favorite in what little data I have seen. Looking at my Hornady manual (only one I have with the cartridge in it), it would seem reasonable to get that 210 gr. bullet going as fast as a .40S&W with a 200 gr. bullet or a .45ACP with a 230 gr. bullet. I guess that's only if I can muster that 900 - 950 fps. I have seen data claiming closer to 1000 fps with the 210 gr. bullet so honestly, I'm not sure what to expect till I get hip-deep. I'll run some of this factory stuff I have coming in over the chrony to see what is considered low end and once I can piece all the reloading stuff together, go from there. I will start things off with the 210 gr. xtp in this one. Later guys. Edited by klallen |

Love the Tang pistols. The are very accurate and fun to shoot. Hat the heavy
DA trigger pull but the SA is fine. The big think is the slide runs INSIDE the frame Rails. Enjoy it. |

morning JAYRANDO >> been shooting a tanfoglio witness 10mm (factory loads only to this point) for a while now and i love it. bro bought the same handgun and had a heck of a time finding a load that fed and functioned properly. i'm under the impression that he finally did using golden saber bullets but i am curious to see if i run into similar issues once i start the reloading process for mine. would like to center my 10 around the 180 gr. gold dot but will have to see how that gaping hollow point feeds. will report on this .41 when i get a little shooting done. later. korey

well, 4 days of hard surfing for some .41ae brass has proven productive. i was finally able to talk to someone at qual-cart.com and they confirmed the .41ae case is indeed a regularly produced product. I have 200 pieces coming in from them. Originally thought to have a couple thousand on the shelf, after my purchase, they only have 150 cases left so a new production set should be scheduled in the not so distant future. that does put my mind at ease having a steady producer of the case. albeit, at $1.08 per case, it's not cheap. and i know noone using qual-cart cases so know nothing about the quality ... but will find out soon enough. had a fella e-mail me back from a 1911forum.com contact, too. he had an ad up first of this month selling his ae ammo $150 per 200. virgin imi cases, which supposedly is supposed to be the top notch, strongest for the round.?.?.?.? didn't think he'd have any left this late after his post but he did so i have 200 more coming in from him. so along with the 100 rounds of factory stuff i have coming in, i should be fairly well stocked for now. next concern is the hornady dies i have coming in. compared to the cost for the rcbs 3-die set (over $200) these hornady's were a steal so i'm wondering if i'm missing something, like their .41mag dies and come with no taper crimp die. the rcbs dies specified a taper crimp die included, the hornady's did not. hmmm. and one more concern, reports have filtered in regarding the use of heavier 210 gr. bullets in this handgun and reliable function issues. something along the lines that they're to long for the mag and if not seated deep enough can jam up there. and when seated deep enough, take away needed powder space. again, hmmmm. certianly not going to be broken-hearted if i have to stick with a 170 gr. bullet but with the 210 xtp's on the way, sure would like to see them work. lots to think about and the gun and reloading components aren't even here yet. |
