Great video of how S&W quality revolvers are made.  I know some beside me feel the S&W revolvers are just the best firearms made.  wing included

Thanks for sharing that video Bear. I really enjoyed it.

As you know I have a "thing" for Smith & Wesson revolvers. I had no idea they hand fitted that many parts. They are definately craftsmen.

I wish they would have shown the whole process of fitting a side plate. You can barley see the seam on the side plate on every S&W I have. Most of mine were made between WWII and the early 80's. The quality of the fit and finish didn't change in that time. It's first class.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

They say never take the sideplate off as it is polished after it is placed on.  People say it will show if removed.Well, 55 years ago, I took my sideplate off, still looks perfect.  I just had to see the insides.

If you love the smith revolvers, you need Jerry Kuhnhausen's book,  "The S&W revolver, a shop manual".  It shows every part and how it works and how it could be repaired/fitted.

Their is a "right" way to remove a side plate. Never ever under any circumstances pry on a side plate to remove it. Take the screws out with an appropriate screwdriver so you don't bugger up the screw. then turn the gun so the side plate is facing down and rap on the grip frame with the handle of a screwdriver. It will fall right off. Then don't force anything when you put it back on.

I've done this many times and you could never tell it was ever removed.

Thanks for suggesting this book. I'm going to order it.

I have Jerry Kuhnhausens book for the 1911. Good book for anyone working on a 1911.

I just received the S&W book yesterday. It was a few bucks cheaper from Midway.

I haven't read much but from looking through it, it looks good.
