S&W Model 27 My new Cylinder

I posted a while back about a model 27-2 that I found at a local shop. But I can't find where I posted it.

I decided to wait until after the gun show this weekend to get serious about the model 27. I went to the gun show and didn't find anything that I couldnt live without. I did see a S&W model 17 K-22 that I really wanted, but I couldn't get together with the seller on the price.

So I went back to look at the 27 again. I think it is in better condition than I thought at first. It only has about 1/8th of an inch of wear at the muzzle fron a holster. The rest of the gun looks great. Only a small ring around the cylinder.

The thing I dont like is, It has a set of Pacmayer grips. I would rather have the originals. And some dumbass painted the front sight ramp with what looks like finger nail polish. Any ideas how thremove the polish without damaging the blueing? 

It has a 5 inch barrel, Is pinned and recessed, and has the knurled top strap.

I think I am going to like this one. I will post a range report as soon as the wind quits blowing. No wait, This is Wyoming. I will have to shoot in the wind.

I think you got a very good buy.  Very good!  Particularly with the P&R & knurled rear sight.

I know that acetone, aka fingernail polish remover, will take the stuff off, but I don't know what it'll do to the blue.  Might want to invest a call to S&W on that one.

Congrats you will love it.

That muzzle wear just means it wasn't a closet Lady.  the owner liked it enough to take it out and carry/shoot it.

Gun shows have lots of standard S&W grips in like new, as many replace them for lots of reasons.  In the 44 I like the Pacmeyer or U. Mikes rubber grips.  They stick to your hand and of course absorb some of the 44mag shock.

I have only had the chance to get it out and shoot it one time.

I need to practice more, but it shoots great. I can put 6 shots into about 5 inches at 25 yards offhand. I can assure you the gun will do better.

One thing that surprised me was. I tried 38's and 357's. It shot 357's better and I didn't notice much difference in recoil. Not much at all. On one cylinder I alternated 38's and 357's and I could tell a difference but not much.

I could tell the difference in my K frame alot more. and it shoots 38's better.

Might just be the factory ammo I have been using while I have been gathering brass.

I think a lot of people with a .357 Mag don't like the "full throttle" loads especially if they have a smaller gun......also some (the non reloaders for sure) may buy the less expensive .38Spl  "plinking" rounds just to get more trigger time for the $ spent. 

That big ole N-frame will not pass a whole lotta recoil on to your hand.  It's real good at soakin' the recoil up in it's own not inconsiderable mass. 

For target loads, try pushin' some 148 grain hollow base wadcutters along at about 900 fps.  Experiment with any of the faster powders, you'll be almost sure to find one that's both accurate & clean.
