been having pretty good luck on spring creek, which starts(at a spring, of course) just south of lewistown, and slows north through town and eventually into the judith river, which flows into the missouri, where it was discovered just 198 years ago by william clark and named for his cousin, who eventually became his wife (she was 13, he was 36).

anyway, the trout being caught are rainbow and brown trout (also known as german trout, also known as loch leven trout).

size ranged from one that was about 9 inches to two that were over 20 inches (one just barely, the other about 22 inches). the average size was about 14-15 inches.

total number of trout caught was 12, and they were caught on the saturday and sunday before memorial day.

locations were both downstream from lewistown, divided just about equally between the carroll trail fishing access site and the hruska fishing access site.

these trout were caught on drifted worm/split-shot rigs, a red/white mepps aglia (#1) and a black and white rooster tail spinner with a willowleaf blade.

for a report on where these trout ended up, see the recipies section, thread titled: first experience smoking trout!
