Evening Fellas  >>  Went out today and was able to put the final touches on some handgun development.  Felt good to take some things off the "to do" list  ;o)  .

First the Taurus .44 RemMag.  I had finished this development earlier this summer using the 320 gr. Cast Performance WLNGC.  Starline brass, CCI 350 primers and 22.0 grs. of H110 had these bullets averaging 1332 fps.  Just as I started to run my first cylinder of finished rounds through the gun for zeroing, the front ring gave loose.  Replaced with quality rings, as I should have used in the first place, and got back to it today.  This was the revolver that I chose as the platform to test run a NCStar fixed 4x32mm scope.  Even though cheap, I'd heard some decent things about them and figured the fixed option would be the least likely to fail.  So far, it's proven reliable.  I shot at 25 yds. today.  Scope zeroed quickly.  Groups were just under an inch.  Plan to keep ranges of shot for this gun 100 yds. and in.

Next the IMI AutoMag IV .45 WinMag.  This was also a summer development project completed back then using the cast 250 gr. Hunters Supply FP.  Starline brass, CCI 350 primers and 24.0 grs. of H110 had this bullet averaging 1423 fps.  And, again, as I was running the first magzine of finished rounds through for some accuracy work, things happened.  The front blade flew clean off the gun.  I have no idea how I found the thing but after close to an hour of searching, I tripped across it.  50 did some machining to the blade, screwed it down with some lock-tite, let it set up.  Blade isn't moving anywhere now.  All shots fired at 25 yds. and once zeroed were inside the 2.4" aiming square on the target so this one's ready for hogs (or whatever).  Performance matches the MAX load I had in my .44 RemMag using a lighter 240 gr. cast bullet.  I knew there was nice potential with this .45 WinMag and am thrilled at where things ended up.

I had the .50 AE and .500 S&WMag along for the trip and did some shooting with factory ammo just to reaquaint.  Development with these to come early this spring.  It was mighty cold to be shooting either of these.  Seemed to sting the hand just a little bit more then usual.  LOL.

Had some new scopes mounted on the 94AE .307 Win. and Ruger #1 .416 RemMag earlier this year and finally got to putting them on paper at close range.  Never worked with a german reticle before.  I'm kinda liking the one in the Titan 1.25-4.5x28 on the .416, but this is wrong material for this forum.

Well, that's the Jan. 28th, 2007 handgun report.  Later.  >>  korey

Korey - Man, if I ever get down that way I'm coming for a visit!  Would probably never have an opportunity to shoot so many "different" handguns in "different" cartridges. Your work-up sounds promising, though. Keep us up to date!

Regards, Marcus.

P.S. Here's my latest acquisition... a boring old S&W in .38 Special...

Marcus, how the heck are ya?  Been a while, my friend.  Holidays and the new year treated ya well, I hope.

I tell ya what, give me a little time to get development done with the other 9 revolver and semi-auto cartridges I need to work on and you can have the run of the guns when you come down    .  I'm thinkin, ohhhhhhhhhh     ...     summer, 2008 sounds about right    .  If that works for you, that is.  LOL.

I just sent my .375 SuperMag off to the DanWesson service department to get fitted with a new cylinder.  What an experience.  Being a cartridge so long out of production, all they had were a couple from the old factory sitting on a storage shelf.  He said I could have one installed and is sure it'd cure the problems I'm seeing with cases sticking in the chamber with all the ridges it was delivered with from the factory.  Figured this is why I was able to get into the revolver so cheaply at a gun show 3 years back.  I hope it works.

I read your "V" string.  Didn't comment cause, quite frankly, I know nothing about the revolver.  I'll learn through you.  Have ya had that .38 out shooting yet?

Last weekend gave me time to complete two more rounds of development.

Working with the Sig SP2340 .40 S&W, I settled on a load using the 155 gr. Gold Dot and 11.0 grs. of Blue Dot.  Average velocities clocked in at just under 1200 fps.  This is the home defense semi-auto that's by the bed the most right now.

And for the IAI Javelina 10mm Auto, was really looking forward to getting this one done.  This was the first in the family of IAI / AMT firearms that I bought and originally had a home / self defense load worked up for it using the 180 gr. Gold Dot and 11.0 grs. of Blue Dot to achieve just under 1275 fps.  Came to the conclusion that barrel length of this gun was just to long for me to consider it a dedicated defense weapon so I switched things up looking for a close range hunting load.  I ordered a box of Hunters Supply 180 gr. cast FP's.  10.5 grs. of Blue Dot and a CCI 300 primer gets this bullet moving along at just over 1340 fps.  Another one's ready for the hogs

Got nailed by a nice little snow storm Monday that's pretty much lasted all week.  Needed one more range session with these loads just for some final zeroing but that can come when it warms a bit.

Two more     ...     of the list !!!
