I saw exactly the same damage to a 1st generation Colt SAA Long Flute. It was my neighbor's CAS gun and had many thousands of rounds. I believe it was from too LITTLE powder. The cartridges on both sides burned off or detonated. CAS shooters cock with the left thumb which was the only body part injured. 5 Broken bones but doc was an orthopedic surgeon so he knew where to go to get it fixed.

I know someone who had a Ruger Super Blackhawk that looked like that Smith with the exception that the bullet lying there was a cast GC projectile.
He sent it to the factory for repair and the best he could get out of them was a good price on a replacement SS SBH. I know exactly what he did to cause the gun to come apart, but I ain't tellin. A fellow shooter found the top strap downrange and gave it to me. I keep it over my reloading bench so I will be reminded not to do it again! |
