I'm looking for a new .45 and am struggling between the Sig 220 and one of the H & K USP's. Does anyone have any first hand information or thoughts as I go through this. I may carry it from time to time but not being in law enforcement, I don't need to carry one for duty. Thanks for your input. |

OK; I don't have any experience with the SIGs, but carry an H&K USPc in .40 myself. It's been on my hip for around 10 years now & never a problem. I do see that H&K has recently released the c (compact) in .45 tactical. That would mean the extremely accurate O-ring threaded barrel. I need one like I need another hole in the head, but man I do believe I got the wants pretty bad. 900F |

Thanks for that good information. If given the choice would you prefer the 40 or 45 to carry?

OK; I have no qualms at all about carrying a .40 instead of a .45. Or, bullet placement trumps caliber every time. Practice with what you carry, frequently. 900F |

If it were up to me, everyone would be armed with S.I.G.'s. That's just me though. I have enough experience with just about all self defense pistols to form an opinion though, and owned just about everything at one time or other. That being said, I mostly carry a 1911, with 8 shot mags. I also have been seen with a SIG P226 and a S&W snubnose .38. I don't think you can go wrong with a H&K, but for myself, SIG is worth every p-enny that you pay for them.........................Kingpin

a sig 229 in 40 has been my primary carry piece for around 2-3 years now. love it, and everything about it. it is a heavy little beastie, so you must invest in a good gun belt, or it will be uncomfortable. in a decent belt, the thing is actually nice to carry. i have too little h&k experience to have a valid opinion about them. i would also suggest you at least consider a s&w m&p 40... my wife has one, and it is a fantastic weapon. also, the xd-45 is a pretty good choice. i have an xd-40, and it is ok, but the xd-45 would be the way i would go if i were to re-do that purchase. Hunting is not a matter of life or death; it is much more important than that.

Fella's; Garou has an XD40 which we've compared with my H&K USPc .40. The H&K has the better trigger, and enough of a difference that I think it's beyond the variance you find from gun to gun. Other than that, neither one has had a fail-to-fire, or any other problem. The XD is striker fired, the H&K is hammer fired. The XD exists as an alternative to Glock, pretty much the same operation. The H&K has a frame mounted operating lever & can be carried cocked-n-locked ala the 1911 platform. However, it's operating lever is also a decocker, a significant comfort factor over the 1911's. The XD costs a lot less than the H&K. The H&K offers a lot more choosability to the buyer. There are 9 operating functions available to choose from for the buyer of an H&K USP. Then there's quality. The H&K catalog I have shows the group a USP shot at 25 yards. It's a pretty damn good group. It's an outstanding group considering that they deliberately lodged a bullet in the barrel & then fired another bullet into it. Yes, it bulged the barrel. No, the gun did not blow up. And yes, the gun shot a pretty damn good group after that was done to it. If anyone needs the catalog date & page, by all means say so, it's in there. 900F |

I've had a Sig P220 in 45acp to carry since the middle 90's.It's the most accurate firearm out of the box I own.A former USMC armorer told me they're accurate to 50 meters but when I criticized the construction of the 220 he said after I fire 10,20,30,40 or 50,000 rounds thru it come on back and tell him what my thoughts are. When our dept decided to buy Glocks that was one of the reasons I opted out of the training as I hate those weapons, too easy to have an AD.
