Shadow’s first water retrieval!

   We went over to the river this weekend and took Shadow along. My parents own a little shack on the Fox by Puckaway. We had to drop a dead tree and had lots of sticks for him to go after. He got a coon too. He treed another and climbed up after it! 

On his retreival. Sometimes he swam out and grabbed it and came back fine. But, the majority of the time he would swim out to it and grab it, but on his return it was like he was thinking too hard on holding the stick and was forgetting to use his rear legs!?! His rear would drop straight down and his front paws came out and just splashed. I thought he was tired out and was going to drown the first time. Once he dropped the stick, he was fine. 

What gives?

	Come on guy's. There is a question here and even didn't respond!!!! Is it his stupidity or just that he is so focused on what he's got in his mouth?
	Stupid people are like a slinky, they don't serve much purpose in the world but they sure are fun to watch tumble down the stairs!

	Hey BK, I dont know anything about water dogs, My dogs are scared to death of water. But From what I have seen keep throwing those sticks, The problem might work itself out. Their is alot of excitement in a step that big. Dogs are alot like kids. They get so excited they forget what they are doing. I also dont know much about golden retreivers but The shorthairs I have had are not great retreivers. They will retreive birds but loose interest in balls and sticks pretty fast. I think you should make time to throw sticks into water every day. The relationship yall have together will be worth every time you dont really feel like going out. 	bk, Try throwin something that he cain't lift out of the water, if they're young sometimes they try to lift things out of the water on the retrieve and the butt goes down. When it happens there front paws start slappin the water, and the look like they're gonna drown. Couple of ways to fix it, use a heavy bumper and keep them closer to shore, after a while they'll tire out and start bring it back with their head level. When they do keep they're head down tell them good boy so he/she knows their doing it right. Let me know if that doesn't work. Good book - "waterdog" Spot

	Wingmaster, You it hit dead on with loosing interest fast. Sometimes you'll be playing and after a short bit he'll run like a bat out of hell, get there, find the ball/stick, stiff it and decide he's bored and comes back and does something else. Spot, sounds like a good theory. We don't get over there all the time, and usually don't take him with. He IS a part of my family and my dad frowns on dogs in the house. Basically a big conflict of interest. It just works better if we leave him home. I could take him down to our pond but there is lots of soft muck, rather not get him that gooey.
