Just bought a weatherby Vanguard 7 mm rem Mag for use on elk this year, any one have any reloading data/suggestions for 160 to 175 gr bullets? Powder recommendations?

H4831 or RL22. Most 7 Mags like max or near max load |

Sorry varmentcaller,... I've been having troubles getting this website to "engage" for me for the last few weeks Kept getting the page telling me that the site must be experiencing "Difficulties" and to check back later. Anyhow,.. I have been using Reloader#22 for my 7mm Mag for a LONG time now. The original load I worked up for it used the identical compoents as you are talking about using with CCI Lg. Rifle Magnum primers. Start out at about 63.5 grains and work up to 67.9 grains. This load out of my Rem 700 BDL achieves 3031fps and works out to 3305 ft. lbs of kill energy,.. PLUS it is accurate to boot. I still use this load today except I'm now shooting the new 154 grain Interbonds, and it's just as accurate and deadly as the 162's were. Just be sure to work up to that grain weight,.. every firearm reacts differently. Let me know how the load works for you and your firearm.
And NOW I noticed your shooting a "Weatherby 7mm Mag " so seeing your case capacity is somewhat larger (87gr. as opposed to my 82gr.) My software shows your good to 71.3 grains with that case (safe internal pressures) with just about the same stats as I quoted for the Rem Mag load. Edited by 7mm Magnum |

7mm Magnum Just checked the hornady manual and it shows 63.0 gr of rel 22 as maximum, are you sure i can use that as a starting load? I dont know how strong the howa/weatherby action is. |

that howa is as strong as any other, but not so for the hornady 162btsp. nicely accurate but can't stand the racket, or at least couldn't 20 years ago. maybe they toughened em up. max |

Sorry for not getting back in a while,... been out of town and away from the web.
I did read what you had to say in your other post about my load info,.. Ya' got to remember LAWYERS,... If you go back a few years there are a bunch of load formulas that have been "weened- back" to lesser amounts in the "NEWER" manuals.
The 67.9 grains are just FINE in my rifle,... I'm going to post the software readout on this load so you can see it for yourself below:
I hope this clears up any doubts regarding the load,... I have used it and it IS safe in my Remington 700 BDL Edited by 7mm Magnum |

Dakotasin,... It looks from what my software is tellin' me I'm going to be close to your load,.. but not exactly at it. It's going to be 68.2 grains of RL#25 for me,.. from there I'm playin' with seating depths to tweek. |

7MM Magnum HELP! I used my seven mag on my hunt this year, and i had a lot of problems, I shot two deer with the hornady 162 interlocks and dropped them both in their tracks...then they got up and took off, i lost both of them, fortunately i had my 30-06 as a backup and dropped a nice one with it, using the 165 gr Hornady interlock. My question is...am i using the wrong bullet for deer? How would it perform on elk? Am i pushing this bullet too fast?
Any advice would be appreciated thanks mike |

Surprised to hear that about the interlocks. I'd ask what range you'd be shooting at. It's been my unfortunate experience that shoulder hits on whitetails at close range with standard bullets from a high velocity rifle don't perform as well as I had hoped. Bullets tend to come apart quickly and penetration resultantly is lost. Just a thought. |

Drop those velocities down to 7 x 57 loads and the bullet will perform very nicely as long as shot placement is correct. If you want those velocities go to a tougher bullet
