This shot gun is going to be set up as a coyote gun and an occasional birder.
Steady grip pistol grip is working great. It and the dead mule have tamed the god awful recoil of my huge 3 1/2" coyote loads. It shoots the steel goose loads of #2X#B shot 1 3/8 1400 fps very good with my Cremator .670 extended choke. 40 yards will put 65% of the shot in a 30" pattern. I got a Fields reflex red dot and a Benelli shotgun aluminum top rail. Mounted the dot and went out to see what it does. I set my coyote target at 60 yards. After a few shot I seam to have the bulk of the pattern starting at his feet and going over its head. My lead "F" 22 caliber 3 1/2 , 1 5/8 load at 1350 has like 47 pellet's. A piece of printer paper mid mass of my coyote runs like 10 to 15 pellets in it. The backer I shoot is 36x40 and I count over 35 pellets in it each shot, at 60 yards. It was to cold to retry every thing at 70 but I'm confident it will be fine. Even hand loading it costs around $2 bucks a shot too. I did find the dot being at least an 1 1/2" above the barrel made a cheek weld imposable. Today I put in two tapered shims to lift the comb up. I moved it up 3/4 of an inch where I put my cheek, I also moved the stock to shift to the left to put me more inline with my bore. It feels a LOT better I don't have to search for the dot. I pull it up and its there. I can leave both eyes open and see the imposed dot, red or green. I actually like the circle and cross hair the best. Now I just have to try it on a victim. Did the shims come with the gun?
Assume you put them between the receiver and the stock, near the tang?

Yes and yes.
They came with the steady grip stock. 5 come with it they also cant left or right. The two together come out to 3/8 thick on the bottom and about a 1/16 " on the right hand side. It moved the comb up over 3/4 inch and left about a 1/2 inch. Feels real good the "Dot" comes right up in the center of the leans no searching for it, very fast, with both eyes open.

I have red dot, the old type, not reflex.
Are the reflex rugged? they appear to 'stick up' and coud be knocked off?

The $60 kind like I got maybe not so tough.
They are all aluminum, I'm guessing like any scope you would not want to be dropping them or whacking them on a tree.

DB TAC Red and Green Reflex Sight with 4 ReticlesI went out and shot it today. I just set out clay pigeons at 45 yards and shot them as fast as I could. I broke 20 with 20 shots. I mixed up what I was shooting steel/ lead, 2 3/4 and 3". It kept on track and seamed to not be bothered by the recoil. I did not adjust for the 45 yard verses the 60 I sighted it in at. It looked like a large part of the pattern was going over the top. but still crushing the clays. I did not want to use up my coyote shell, $2 each and no way to get supplies to load more. I I'm thinking I'll get a mold for lead F shot and make my own. I found the mold but it's $100 I may drop down to 21 caliber rather then 22. I could get 2 more pellets in a load. if I go up to 23 I lose 3 per shell. i have 300 pounds of bullet lead at home and My boy has more than that of almost pure lead at his house. Feels funny to leave both eyes open put is very fast to find the next target. Off subject but. It would be a BIG SOB that could stand flat footed and rip off 5 of my 1 5/8 oz. coyote loads as fast as the gun will fire them. Even with the pistol grip and dead mule there is PLENTY of recoil to move you off target.
