Sure my eyesight is getting bad, age.

But I'm thinking of converting one of my high power rifles to a red dot combo, to make it a special close range gun.  I hunt  NY, Pennsylvania, Wyoming,  Florida, and Maine yearly.  most are close range hunting.

Thinking of using my 9.3x63 with a red dot sight.  Now like most of my rifles it wears a Leupold var-x scope.

I've got 4 red dots in my arsenal 2 on shotguns, and one on cosbow.  All are $29 Aimpoints, 20+ years old.  all work perfect aand i've killed lots of deer, boar, turkeys, driven pheasants, and geese with them.

WOW, looked at $$ for new,  $250-1290.

Are they better?
Do any of you use red dots exclusively for big gane hunting?

I'm in the hunt, no pun intended, as well for a new red dot for my S&W 610 10mm revolver.  I put a current $29 reflex on it and wound up with a cracked the glass and double dots.  Need something that will stand up to the recoil better.  The price tag is definitely steep.  Ouch.  I've got to get going though.  The season starts in 10 days.

Good luck 788

My cheaap aimpoint red dot stands up to my 4 mag.  And that is a fixed breech Contender, so it does recoil sharply.

Again, I like the red dot for shotgun and pistols and x-bows, but never used one on a rifle.

Surprised me that they cost more thaan a Leupold VX-3i...ouch.

I have heard some even magnify a little too.

My cheep chinses red dot $49 at amazon worked good but the adjustment would turn a slight bit each shot, maybe some blue lock tight would help. The recoil from the M3500 did crack the corner of the glass. Worked well on ground shots not so much on air shots. Looking in to bright sun washed the "DOT" away. The boy had some kind on his 17 hornet K, but at 150 yards it covered most of a coyote.Question

Yep, the dots  are not good at long rang.  thinking 100 yds max.  I have one that is 2x.  But I like the no magnification as it is wide field of view.

On my x-bow hunting  I find I have to adjust the brightness as the field light changes.
