https://www.americantrucks. Iron Cross Heavy Duty Grille Guard Front Bumper; Gloss BlackRough Country 2-Inch Front Premium N3 Leveling StrutsI'm thinking I'm going to order them? What do you think? For whatever reason here in town REAL deer guards for F150's are lacking. It's free freight anyway. It would be nice to "SEE" it in person. There like 250 pounds. Do you think 2" will be enough? I can't find any information on the ford front end suspension as far as weight guides. Let me know your thoughts, please. The guy out in Hobson Mt, about 80 miles east, makes them but is twice the price, and I would have to go get it. And still have to put it on. Edited by d4570 - 15 July 2020 at 12:58 |

That looks nice!
Used to be a company called Tuffybuilt. They made them to stop elk. Bumper and guard was over 750 pounds for small truck and 1k for full size. Helper spring and a leveling kit should round out the deal there D.

Rough Country 3-Inch Front Premium N3 Leveling StrutsIs what I'm thinking. Just the fronts the bumper and guard is around 300 pounds. With a 2" receiver where the winch would go, I'm not going with the winch, I'm not a 4 wheeler kinda guy. Truck goes in a ditch and the Visa comes out... I'm only 5'5" and the wife is shorter cant lift the truck much, like none.

What year? I have a set of HD springs for the struts if your nuts are still turnable. My old truck needed the entire struts but I had purchased the springs in advance hoping they would spin free. Was an 05 150.

My last GMC. I had a font hitch/receiver, bolt one cost about $150. then I hade a brush/critter guard from 1 1/2 box beam, about 80#. never got the chance to hit a deer with itt. missed many, I'm a slow driver because where I live we have the highest whitetail density in US.

Seems most Deer Guards are made for agressive 'LOOK' not for deer contact. Saw some that only weigh 32#?????
What model do the MT State Police use? they probably have tested them hundreds of times?

I made my own as I wanted a gard that was below or at my bumper height. M GMC had plastic bumper and driving through fields and saplings just dug up the plastic. so I made mine low and thick. sure it looked ugly to lots of folks. But It cam off very easy, cause it used the 2" front receiver.
I think most deer guards will bend a lot on impact with a 200 pound deer; Certainly smash the deer guard. But I wonder if the impact would spread into the grill/rad/AC???? As said, lots of deer where I live. I've hit 4 deer in my life, no damage in 3 of those to my cars or trucks, all low speed. One was as I stopped it kept running and flipped over my hood. last year with wifes brand new Buick, I hit one at 45 miles ph; I was doing 60 but got the speed down in 2 seconds. Damage was $2400 cover by insurance.

Deer guards VS Brush guards.
Brush guards. Deer guards Lighter 100 pounds for a good one. Heavy 2 1/2 steel Deer guards 3/16 steel, most are 350+ $200 to $900 use factory bumper. Start $1000 to over$300 No winch or receiver Can have winch and receiver Use factory bumper lights and tow Hooks still have front safety censers Can have "D" ring mounts Attach to the frame with grade 8 steel bolts no censers Most have multiple LED lights Only a Semi type guard will STOP a deer at highway speeds. Lota Rancher/farmers run them but you have to take them off to work on the truck. Some BULL bumpers work if you hit them straight on the deer goes under the truck, you see them a lot on SUV's because they are much lighter. I don't think I want a deer rolling around under my truck with all the lines and cables down there. AS far as lifting the truck I don't want to the lifts should just put it back to were it is now with all that weight up front. I have seen where you should get an alignment after to accommodate the different stance. City folk use Brush guards to look cool. People that MAY run in to a deer use "Deer guards" Like a lot of thing get what you can afford and HOPE.

Just checked and the numbers match for 05-14 F150 front coils. AC Delco's HD # 45H0383. If you want them shoot me off a text with your addy. The weight will definitely effect your tow and camber. I'ld still opt for the helper spring and the 1" leveler which I believe is what you were doing. The helper is a cheap bolt on from any auto parts store but they suck up an extra 500 pounds. Kind of a must for tow winch and snow plows.
I have yet to see a guard set that spared damage. A good guard means you get to drive home and hopefully get around for awhile until you can get the damages fixed vs. totaling the vehicle and being stranded.

Thanks, but the lifts are on there way as is the bumper/guard as we speak. ![]() When Bear and I hit Mrs mule deer one very dark morning at 70 mph In my 1994 suburban, did not even get off the gas it was so fast, there was little doubt a DEER guard would not have helped much but maybe I could have at least moved to the shoulder. That poor truck had numerous deer encounters but most the deer ran in to the side of it or under 20 mph. I can tell you, here it's not if you will hit a deer it's when. My 2013 ford truck will never be able to absorb as big a hit as the sub could. The strut lift is what ford recommends for the front lift. If I ever want or need I'll put air bags in the back.

I will.
I'm having them add a receiver to the bumper where the winch would go and brackets to make the factory LED's to work, that adds time to the order. It'll be two weeks before they start to ship it, then however long it takes to get here.
I'll have to do the struts and bumper the same weekend to make full utilization of my free help. |

Many years back we called them "grill" guards. They fit between headlights and were pretty strong. I had small winch on mine using bracket I fabricated to fit on grill guard.
Never hit a deer with it so can't attest as to its strength to ward off deer carcus. Be nice to see pics D when yours is mounted....B4 & After hitting deer.

70 mph in Montana is like 105 mph everywhere else. Except Wyoming where it's like 85 mph.
