I always swore that I would never own a rifle that fired a belted cartridge...
but now I am wavering. A local shop has a Colt Coltsman rifle in the used rack. According
to my references, it's built on an FN action, and was produced between 1957 and 1961.
Good condition, about 90% blue, some honest wear at the muzzle and balance point. Very nice
straight grained walnut stock with oil finish. Caliber is .300 H&H...probably the only belted
cartridge I would ever consider. (don't ask why, it just is). Price is $450. I don't buy bolt action
sporters, I figure this is a fairly good deal. What do you folks think?

I *think* the .300 H&H is the only one that needs a belt so no guilt there. The price seems in the ball park.

NH Hunter

"Handles" are kind of silly in my view and I prefer just using my name. Thats tough too since there are so many people with the same first name, It was a new board so I took the opportunity to use my given name.

Did you get the Coltsman? They were good rifles. The actions were either FN or Sako. The wood is somewhat funky on some of them, but I'd buy it anyway. And $450 sounds like a good price to me. I shot one in .30-06 years ago, that belonged to the father of a girl I was dating, and it was a tack driver. I don't remember if it had the Sako or FN action though.
