I'm thinking about using my Remington 700 mountain rifle for antelope this year.

The whole idea of the mountain rifle is it's light weight at 6lbs 9oz. The problem is I have a 2 pound scope on it.

90% of the time when I'm hunting I set the scope to 6 power and leave it there. That got me to thinking, why not get a fixed power 6X scope that's probably a lot lighter and lighten my rifle by a pound or maybe more.

Does this make sense? Are fixed power scopes lighter than variable scopes?

Thanks guys.

I will see if I can find one to look through. I never have had a Leupold scope I didn't like.
