Woo Hoo

Draw results came out today. I drew an antelope and an elk tag.

I have been putting in for a deer tag in a limited quota area south of Wright Wyo. for, I think, 8 years. I have been unsuccessful every year. This year is no different.

It's not the end of the world though. Almost all of Wyoming is a general area for deer. I can still get a general license and go to a different area.

That's great. Congratulations.

I haven't decided what rifle I am going to use. 2 rifles are in the running. A Sako .243 or maybe a Remington 700 mountain rifle in .308. If I use the .308 I think I am going to replace the scope.

The results are in:
Between my son and I applying for 16 different drawings (8 each) he got a B-cow elk permit.  One out of 16 isn't good at only 6.2% success. I was still not able to get a sheep permit after 52 years of applying. Just too many people living in Montana now (compared to 20 or 30 years ago).Unhappy
I hope all of you were more successful.

P.S. But I did draw 3 moose permits over the years.Smile

It doesn't sound like any of us got everything we wanted but I'm pretty sure all of us will have a great season.

Dale, Maybe you need to invest in a bird dog.  In the early 70's I had two wirehaired Pointing Griffons.  Boy, were they good before they got old.
I used to hunt the Sun River Game Range and around Choteau for sharptail and huns. I'd shoot ducks and ruffed grouse around here. Also I'd purchase an Idaho bird license and hunt Chukars, huns, and quail in the Salmon River breaks.
In those years I'd shoot 100+ birds a year over the dogs.  As the dogs and I aged we couldn't do that any longer.
There's nothing like hunting birds over pointing dogs.  Lots of shooting, not like big game hunting.Smile

I agree. As a kid we raised German shorthair pointers. It was impressive to hunt over a good dog. We has some that would retrieve ducks, but they hated it. We had a black lab for a while too.

I had 2 German Shorthairs. It was amazing watching them work.

Mine didn't care anything about water. I tried a couple times to get them to swim but both times all it did was make me feel bad.

My last one died about 8 or ten years ago. I still don't have the heart to get another one.

I sure miss those dogs.
