looking for an air rifle. should be easy cocking. about $200

Will scope. primary target green iguanas.

For iguana would 177 be better or .22?

I have a Gammo Whisper. The name makes it sound quiet but it's anything but quiet. It's pretty easy to cock. The barrel breaks over like a single shot shotgun. Mine is a .177. It has killed things that I intended to just scare away. I think it would reliably kill iguanas.

I have heard Iguanas are good eating but I'm pretty sure I'll never find out. I can't get past the big lizard part.

Lot of them in Florida keys, and south Florida. they usually are basking in sun, and make easy shots.

Wing,

How is the accuracy of the Whisper? Like Bear I also am looking for a low to medium priced air rifle. I would mostly use it for magpie's that keep eating the baby birds from my bird houses. Maybe sparrow hawks too. What caliber would be best?

The last air rifle I had was a Daisy Red Ryder which I have given to my son. It killed hundreds of blackbirds in the ravine behind my house when I was young. Two years ago I gave a new Daisy Red Ryder to my granddaughter for Christmas, and if you remember, I gave my grandson a Henry 22 Golden Boy last Christmas. He's 3 now and almost ready to use it. BTW, his name is Henry and my middle name is Henry after my dad's name.

Pretty much the only expierence I have with the Gammo Whisper is in my back yard. It is accurate enough to reliably kill Eurasian doves from 30 to 40 yards. I don't have any experience with anything other than a .177 cal. I would recomend it for everything you said and bigger animals. I shot a cotton tail with it at about 20 yards and with a head shot. It flipped around for a few seconds but didn't run off.

Thanks for the info. I think I will go with the Gamo from Cabela's since I've got enough points for one.

BTW---I actually feed the doves during the winter with the other birds. The Gamo would be used for magpies and protection for the doves from sparrow hawks.

My daughter says she knows we are getting old when we feed the squirrels and birds. Oh, and deer too.

I haven't ate any yet. I don't think the little lady would be as excited about it as I am.

I guess I'm getting old too. I have been feeding squirrels for the last couple years since we raised two babies and let them go in the back yard. The babies still had their eyes closed when we found them. we turned them loose after about 12 weeks.

I also feed the squirrels. In fact I have 2 houses built for them bolted up high in my pine trees. Also, I have 2 (pretty big now) black walnut trees for winter feed for them. My daughter says old people do that.

Many squirrels have been born in the houses over the years.

In the summer we sit out on the back deck in the evenings. I enjoy watching the squirrels.

Thinking about it, this is something my grandparents would have done. I think your daughter might be right.

My only air gun is a Benjamin M300(?) .22 cal with under bbl forearm lever. I think maxis out at 8

pumps. After 4 it is pretty tuff going. I put a Williams reciever sight on it to maximize sighting efficiency.

Old school air gun but good quality.
