Boots and gloves are two things that become best friends the longer I wear them. But there comes a time when these things wear out (I usually wear them another year). But my 5 inch hiking boots are gone.

I really like all leather, but might need to compromise on an over molded plastic boot (somewhat light weight)

After visiting a few big outdoor stores and their hundreds of boots, can't find a sole I like. Seems with the plastic molding process any style is possible....and they make them all the most tacticool, meaning lots of nubs and crannies. Some even extend out the side.

Sure, these might be more gripping but walk in the mud and you can never get them cleaned out. Would like to fine a sole that isn't a mud collection machine. Even the original Vibram sole look cleaner that today's busy designs.

thoughts.

I'm on my second pair of Danner Pronghorns.
They have what looks like pretty aggressive sole but they don't hold mud that bad. I have taken them off on the front porch and banged them together and they are clean enough to put away.

When I was working at a coal mine I wore Wolverine non steel toe (against the rules but no one ever noticed) work boots. They are a lot less aggressive all leather light weight and very comfortable. They didn't hold mud too bad and if I put Snow Seal on them they were pretty water proof. They have a couple lace to toe models. I prefer that.

I've used Timberline , Wolverine and LaCrosse boots.  But today all are made in china and plastic with aggressive sole designs to 'sell'.

Sheels in GF let me wear a pair around inside the store for an hour.  Soles are too stiff, feet cramped bad..couldn't walk.

They are stiff, but terminuses support.
I want to get some short uninsulated ones for 100* hunting. I have the mountain boot and 400 grams insulation. There 14 years old I sent them in last year for a rebuild, soles, insoles, and any other needed repairs. They came back with new waterproof lining too and laces. Like new boots with broke in leather, just slip them on and go.
$150 and they pay the freight both ways. I will probably ger another 12/14 years out of them.
That puts them at $26 a year.Clap
I have no first hand info on Crispi boots but have herd good thing about them.

Courtenay boots. nuf said.

African sporting creations carries them. I recommend a wide, more room for warmer socks if needed or a cork insole if not.
