For the last 10 years, I've been using scent for my lures.  usually I buy Shad scent in a pump bottle   https://www.walmart.com/ip/YUM-4-oz-Pump-Fishing-Lure-Scent-Shad/20604419" rel="nofollow - https://www.walmart.com/ip/YUM-4-oz-Pump-Fishing-Lure-Scent-Shad/20604419

I start by spraying some on my hands, like a hand cleaner.  that (I think) limits the human odor (gas, plastic, sweat, etc).  then I spray each lure as I use it.

Also, I like plastic baits like Gulp and Yum that are scent treated.  Gulp shrimp is a killer in Salt water and out fishes live shrimp.  Wy?  Because it stays on longer than live shrimp, so all the time your line is in the water, you are fishing.

I go out fishing one day.....Fly, trout, salmon, musky, bass...... and I get pumped to go immediately.

do any of you folks use scent for fishing???  what kind?

Nope, nota.
We did wd40 for a wail but stopped that too...
When we did a lake Kocanusa guided fishing trip for BIG rainbow and Bull trout, the guide had a big jug of WD40 they dunked each lure and streamer in when ever they where put out. Did it help???????
We got fish, trolling, every 15 to 20 minutes. Big fish 8 to 12 pounds each one...
But the way they hated us, we did not want to keep any and had them returned as soon as they unhooked them. Normally they would come back in when they landed a "Boat" limit of fish, we got to fish most the day, hahaha.

I forgot that WD-40 thing.  Tried it 40 years ago...made no scents to me..didn't smell like fish...smelled like WD-40.

years ago Rustoium sold small cans of fish oil (2 oz) for adding to paint tried that in 1965...no improved results.   when i was 10, some guy told me Oil of eucalyptus, Bought some at the drug store..didn't really help and I smelled of the stuff for a day or so.

Anise extract is another one.
Never much faith in any of them. Apparently fish don't mind the of 100% deet.

Yep, tied the anise thing, all I got was hungry for some christmas cookies.

Some fish, like catfish, are scent hunters.  So anything that smells will attract attention.   Doubt it would work on trout, they are strictly sight feeders.

PA has laws against putting any petroleum based products into ecosystem. That said, after six kids and grandkids popping out every few years, pappy has extra baby oil laying around.....minnows?

Let's think about this.   20 miles in a 2 stroke engine to fishing spot, and 20 back.  40 miles at 6 miles per gallon, 50:1 oil mix.  that is over 10 ounces of oil into the lake.   Using any oil on bait,  .1 ounce.

So less than 1% of the oil that a boat puts in!  dah
