Been loading some shot shells, lead 2 3/4. My buddy gave me a gob of hulls asst and wads asst, shot and some powder. Most the hulls where plastic and paper Federal champion II and most the wads are AA 12. The paper has a very large payload area it seams. A 1 1/4 oz #6 load needed a 3/8" felt filler with 21 gr green dot. The Plastic ones filled just right with out the felt. I loaded a hundred of each. I also got some BB lead. I'm loading 50 paper ones with a 1 1/2 oz, 75 pellets, and 20 gr green dot, a little hot but with the stuff he had some OLD load info stuff and I found that load published in it. The D-I-L likes to shoot lighter shells so I'll load her a hundred or so , of Plastic, with 19 gr clays and 7/8 oz 7 1/2. Kinda fun to load lead over steel, less steps. That's more lead shells then I'll shoot in my life time, but fun and only cost me the primers.  ------------- Remember: Four boxes keep us free ,the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, AND the cartridge box |

I'm thinking your Grandaughter will probably be the next shotgunner you will be loading for. Does she have a shotgun yet? I remember Mossberg had a youth model 500 that came with a coupon for a full sized butt stock for when your youth wasn't a youth any more. Do they still do that? Wing master ------------- I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on. |

When they turned 12, my son and neuphew both bought (with their own money) a winchester 1200 youth model. 20 ga 3". they came with choke tubes and a coupon which let you buy a full size butt stock for $20. that was 30 years ago. lots of lead n steel down those barrels. those guns had 21" barrels and still work good for upland birds. Both boys now have 9 year old sons...expect to see those short stocks go back on soon.

I think it's cool to pass guns to the next generation. I like the idea of buying a youth gun and replacing the buttstock when they grow into it.
