I launched a truck once. 79 ford, 3 on the tree, baby v8, 2wd 1/2 ton, with about half million miles on it. It had so little compression left, when I stepped on tongue to winch boat on, motor turned over backwards, launching itself. Kids are still embarrassed about it, it floated for a minute, before bed filled and stuff started floating out. Hooked a chain on it and Dad pulled it out, he was fishing with us. Dad pulled us home, behind his boat trailer, with my boat and trailer behind my truck. I don't think daughter, ever raised her head above dash once, too afraid someone would see her.
Once home pulled plugs, drained and changed oil, spray wd40 in dist cap and carb, a little ether and it fired up, drove it couple more years, just brought a block, for when parking.
Earlier in day, we were grilling dogs, on portable gas grill, using disposable propane cylinders, Dad refilled. Over pressure plug let loose, so tank was on fire, so I did logical thing, grabbed grill and dunked it in lake. Mom was afraid tank was going to blow, kids were afraid someone, they knew would see them. Shortly afterwards is when I launched truck, while loading boat up.

Don't think I want to go on a fishing/picnic with your crew!
I've seen two guys pit there truck in up to windows. One guy blamed it on his cute girl friend.
Best ramp laugh was a guy with a small F350 dump truck red. He was pulling a sleek 28 ft cigarret clone boat. He came into the ramp area , showing off, at 50 mph, no concern for kids, dog, or others. When he backup and lined the trailer up on the ramp he jumped out and strutted back to clip the free spool on the boat trailer winch. Them sjumped into truck and slammed it into reverse, flying down into the water at 30+ mph. As soon as the boat hit the water and was still moving into water at 30+ mph, he slammed it into forward.
Yep, the idiot forgot to disconnect the winch cable! So as he squelled up the wet ramp, he was towing the empty trailer and dragging the boat up the concrete. People shouted, but the idiot thought they were just made at his show-off driving. So he towed the baot dragging on concrete behind the empty trailer about 200 yards to a parking spot. When he got out he started shouting $#$@#^%. Then people started to laugh and clap. Twin Mercruiser outdrives ripped of and lots of expensive fiberglass work for sure.
If you are down and depressed, go to any boat ramp with your favorite easy folding chair and a 'beverage'. a laugh a minute!

I wonder how much alcohol was involved in that video.
The worst I ever did was forget to put the plug in the boat. I was just starting to let the winch out when my wife who was in the boat noticed water coming in.
I was able to just drive up the ramp around the parking area and wait a few minutes for the water to run out then I put the plug back in.
From then on, I would remove the plug at the top of the ramp while we put the binders from the back of the boat to the trailer and then put the plug back in. I never waited until we went back to the lake.
It's interesting how much faster water goes into that little hole than it runs out.

plug left out...yea done that a few times.
But that was 30+ years ago. Now the two last "MUST DO" things are 'plug in?' and 'trailer lights unpluged?'

Late 70s, I did the v-drives, they always leaked a bit, so you'd pull the plug and run them to drain, putting plug back in, before too much water came back in. Some tried the flappers, but they also leaked. When you start with couple inches of freeboard, you don't want to let water build up too much.

Those are funny for sure.
My only blooper was pushing off the dock without my oars in the boat. The wind had me half way across the lake before a kind fella in a bass boat towed me back to get them....head hung low in the dock area.
I have a story about my old friend Tom though...it's a two parter.
We were just a couple of dumb kids back then on a local small lake with no usage of gas engines or electric trolling motors over 10 hp. Tom had his dad's flat-bottom out for the panfish derby and he and I had plans on winning it, we didn't. Caught 84, winner was over 200, yeah, lotsa baitstealers. Anyhow, we decided to run it aground on the beach by the camping area, we, meaning he was driving and I wasn't paying attention. At about 5 mph we hit the sand and he gunned it to get another foot or two....without looking under the boat. The beach may have been sandy, but the shallow was rocks and stumps. With a loud clunk and a twing!, the prop shot off and was never seen again. I'ld like to say my butt was spared the wrath of Tom's father....well maybe that's how I'll remember it from now on.
2nd part
So we find another prop for 5 bucks or so off a local outboard guy and his father allows us to use the boat again if we promise to be good with it. Off we go and into the area for bass and walleye. We no more then get to where we want to be in the weed beds and old stumps when Tom decides he should lift that little motor out of the way so as to not coast into something and damage the new prop. Klunk, klunk, sploosh!....no oars again....In hind sight, he needed a new motor anyway.

Was dating a girl in the mid-60s...non- boater.
On the upper Niagara river 14 miles upstream from the falls (current 5-8 mph). Large outboard Engine seemed funny, sounded funny. I kept stopping to check it out. Girl says " you worry too much that motor isn't going anywhere". Sure, 30 seconds later hit a mid-size wake from a passing cruiser. BAMB, the motor comes off the transom and in 1 sec goes down running full throttle. very quiet, suddenly.
Girl never spoke a word rest of day.
Motor was hanging 7 foot down by the neoprene gas line. Adrenini got it up and into boat. Took it home drain everything, put oil in pistons and pulled it thru. Diodes were toast, I rebuild new silicone bridge. It ran fine. still running on a pontoon boat today.
