My friend relayed a story to me about his friend.
The friends wife went out of town and took his duramax diesel pu. On the way back, she stopped about 75m away for fuel. The husband noted, that this fuel stop was unnecessary as it had already had plenty of fuel. Afterwards, she noted that it would only do 25mph (I assume on one of the many hills on the way and that the pu almost ran fine otherwise. The wife gets home and raises a stink about the pu not running right. It is established that it was running fine until she got gas....then it is established that is exactly what she got....for a diesel pu. Right then and there the husband knew, by the wife's look on here face, that this was somehow caused by something that the husband had done and it was therefore all his fault ; ) So, the friend drives it to the dealer (it has already been driven, flat-out, over a 7,000 ft pass, and then some...75 miles. They drain the fuel and charge a hazardous waste fee for 30 plus gals of mixed fuel, and otherwise waste money...500 bucks later she runs fine. My wife did that with my diesel 30 years ago. Different
result; it would do 60 in second gear. melted the seals in the Teledyne mechanical fuel injector pump...$1000. I see little humor!!!!

I would have thought it would have blow a seal/ring with
the extra kick. But it ran another 200,000+ miles. |

Fella's;
This is one place where the modern technology does save the day. Before the advent of the on-board computer, having gas in a Diesel tank would cause massive pre-ignition and terminal damage to the engine. Damn straight it'd only run 25mph, it would have been somewhere around $20,000,00 worth of junk if the engine had had to have been replaced. 900F ------------- Birth certificate!? He don't need no steenkink birth certificate!! |

Back in 1981, my mother bought a cute little VW Rabbit in diesel. Little thing got about 56 highway and struggled up hills. It was retired just a few years ago after my uncle took it into the midwest for it's last 20 years of service and many 100's of thousands of miles. I digress, anyhow as it took place that long ago time was great for the local ski resort and there was not a service station within 20 miles of the resort. So on a fairly regular basis during the winter months, folks would siphon gas from vehicles parked close to the road so they could make it to their destination without having to push......Local garage replaced many parts in gas engines that apparently came into contact with diesel somehow. Took a few years of weeding out the thieves but they haven't siphoned gas from anyone in a long time now. ------------- ...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt! |

As a ghetto kid we siphon gas...and in those days gas
was 21 cents a gallon. Mis-spent youth. Lots of cars have anti-siphon traps in fill tube. |

Just as a side note, the cheapest I ever bought gas for was in the summer of 1971. I was working a summer job in Denver & there was a gas war down on Santa Fe boulevard, 18.9 cents a gallon! I was driving the '69 Camaro at the time. Live was good. 900F ------------- Birth certificate!? He don't need no steenkink birth certificate!! |

In '66 - '67 I remember "gas wars" down in FL when it would hit 17 cents a gallon. ------------- The reason for the 2nd Amendment is so that we can keep all the others. |

In high school I pumped gas. Texaco station was in a
gas war. Every hour they would say "drive down the blvd and check gas prices and call us back". Then I was allowed to put 1 gallon of gas in my '55 chevy. I would report back and they would lower their price to equal the lowest price. They had a rule, close the station when it gets below 17 cents a gallon. Naturally, my eyes never saw all those 16 cent signs as that would make my day over and a small paycheck! I did pump a lot of gas at 17 for a week or so. |
