My Nephew is a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, He lives off-base! they want to know how many firearms he owns and what type! I told him since he doesn't live on the base it's none of their business! does anybody know how far the military can intrude on your personal rights?

Crazy;

I'd suppose they'd get their shorts in a knot if he told 'em that as a taxpayer he's got a stake in every firearm that the Marine Corps is responsible for, not to mention the rest of da gummint's stock.

It's a long long way from Lew Diamond's Corps.

Unfortunately the DoD owns him 24/7 for the length of his enlistment PLUS any remaining time that falls under the IRR (individual ready reserve).

There is a new, well not new just being enforeced DoD rule about gun ownership. This all came about after the Ft. Hood shootings. There was some misinterpretation, but it has been "clarrified" this only applies to those that live on base/post. Off base/post, they said they can not legally ask you, unless you transport them on base.
