I lose pocket knives like T. Kennedy loses girlfriends.  They never come back & I can't remember what happened.

So, I've long since found out that it's no good paying much over minimal price for a  pocket blade.  That being said, at the fall gun show I did pick up a pocket folder, among other things.  The knife is a Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) #5202B rollock 'folder'.  Except this derivation can't be said to really fold.  What it does it bring the blade into the handle by sliding it backwards. 

After doing the deal I did, this little booger wound up costing me all of $10.00.  It's made in Taiwan, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, finding an inexpensive and good knife made in America is more than a touch difficult these days.  In any case, I've used this thing for a month now.  I'm not real happy with it.

The blade slides out easily & locks firmly.  Push down on the serrations at the rear of the blade & the point pops up out of the liner & slides forward, firmly locking with ease. The fun begins when you want to return the blade into the handle.  You hold the knife & push down on a hump at the rear belly of the handle.  The blade then has to rock, tip up, & slide to the rear.  When it gets 98% to the rear, the retaining stud on the blade has to negotiate a 90 degree corner & rise.  That rise drops the tip into the knife body, protecting both it & the contents of your pocket.  But, it doesn't always want to make the corner.  This can, and did, produce a hole in the palm of one's hand.  I do not like to bleed.  I'm a big sissy & don't like pain either.  Poking a hole in one's palm produces both effects at the same time.

No, I didn't throw the knife away, it's the only cheap one I've got at the moment.  But, I can tell that it's getting ready to leave me.  The left scale, opposite the pocket clip, has disappeared.  Can the rest of the little monster be far behind?  I hope not.  Although I may now have cursed myself & the thing will hang around forever.

I'm glad I didn't pay any more than $10.00 for it & I'd suggest any of you pass it up completly.

CB do you remember the Christie knifes of the 50-60s?  They were inexpensive blade sliding into a skelton handle.

If you want a low cost high quality knife try the Schrade 'Simple Simon'  or SS! they are american made and well worth the $10 they are 'asking' at gun shows.  Unfortunate Schrade is out of business now but most hardware stores still have old stock on hand.
