What is the most accurate 30 cal bullet, forget the premium and the $2 each variety. But of the Speer, Hornady, Sierra, Remington, Winchester what would you recommend....figuring 150-190 grains. I'm thinking 400 yards for a range.

Target - Sierra 168gr Match
Hunting - 165gr Game King. I firmly believe that if any rifle won't shoot this bullet well, it won't shoot anything well.

Bear, there's lotsa quality bullets out there, MOA paper at 400 yards isn't all that rare anymore and most any of the bullets posted above will do it in one gun or another. Trajectory isn't important for paper punchin', BC is as it relates to drift or lack of it as the BC goes up. Question is, which will your gun like? You can work the loads for any and all if you like, but twist has a notable influence on what flies true. You're coy about that and the cartridge...whatcha got? Just my opinion but there's no moss growin' on Ballistic Tips, pick your weight and have at it. I wouldn't ever suggest a premium for target work...there's probably a dozen reasons +/-...big one is they are not as accurate as what's been suggested above...for the most part and most guns.

I'm going to the range tomorrow. Remington 40X @ 100yds, using 42 grains of RL15. Sierra lists is as the "most accurate" with their 168 MK. I'm using the MK, 168 AMax & Speer 168 BTHP moly and will be interested in the results.

yep - twist, barrel harmonics, many factors come into play, both those related to the rifle and the shooter. if you can find a bullet that works well with the rifle, the rest is up to you.

Well at least for today the Sierra was best, AMax very close 2nd. Best group of the day was by Speer. Granted only 50 rounds fired but I think I'd feel pretty well equipped using any of them.

In a 300 Win mag that I owned and a 30-06, it was the Sierra 190 grain Boat Tail bullet.

The Sierra 165 boattail always seems to fly well, although they don't hold together well on game. At least, that was true a decade or so ago. Hornady bullets work about as well as any non-premium bullet on animals, and in some rifles, they shoot well. By and large, the Sierras seem to be the better shooters.

Nosler Solid Base bullets were the most accurate I've ever fired in my Sako Finnbear 30-06 5 in under an inch using 58gr of IMR 4831 & a standard CCI LR primer. They had a run on them until Federal stopped loading them in their ammo Nosler discontinued making a very popular bullet.A friend loads the 165gr Solid Base in his 300 Weatherby which he uses on Elk,Bear,Deer, etc. The Nosler Ballistic Tip 165gr with IMR 4895 and a match or mag primer shoots 1 minute of angle in my M-1 Garand which I used to take a Mule Deer in CO with a lucky neck shot.
