I'm just curious here...  How much brass for any given caliber, rifle or pistol, do you folks keep on hand?  How often do you buy more?  Where do you keep your surplus (if any)

Thanks..

Tom

i keep as much handgun brass on hand as i can conveniently get. don't go out of my way for it, but i track my own brass, and will sometimes pick up/ask for somebody else's once-fired brass.

for big game rifles, i like to have 100 loaded, 100 prepped and primed, and i usually keep a new bag of 100 around.

varmint rifles really skew all this. i have lots and lots of brass for varmint rifles. i try to keep a minimum of 500 loaded at a time (currently, in 22-centerfire i'm well over that mark).

surplus is bagged (100 to a bag) and hung on the wall above my bench. i'll buy more whenever i need to, which is usually after i get a couple pieces w/ cracked necks (i figure the rest aren't far behind).

except for 357 mag, i don't buy handgun brass at all. in rifles, i prefer to buy my own brass.

I have about 25 coffee cans full of sorted brass. I mark the lids with what's in them. Most of that stuff is pistol brass. I keep around 2000 per cal. except for 9mm I have a bunch of that but that's one I don't actively pick-up after shooting so I like to have more on hand. I have a couple friends that keep me stocked in "range" brass for the common stuff. For rifles I have several wooden crates with ziploc bags full of brass. Other than the surplus cals like 223, 308, '06, 30 carb etc. that I keep over a 1000 of each I'd say I have 2-300 each of the 708, 45-70, 300 WBY, 500 S&W, the somewhat less common or maybe just not common for me. The bulk of my brass comes from a dealer that is about 100 miles from me. Generally I buy from him at local gun shows.

Pretty much like others.  Lots of 38 and 357 (big buckets).

non-magnum varmint rifle like the 243 about 500 loaded and another 500 lying around.  Mid range stuff like 257, 7x57, 8x57, 308, 30-40, 30-30, etc about 4-500 , 1-200 loaded.   Big stuff like 375 , 416 (especially the Weatherby brass) about 100.  Only a box or two of each loaded as I like fresh ammo with the best bullets for a specific big game hunt.

When I retire I plan to load it all.  And shoot 50 rounds a day until all the kids inheritance money is gone for Hornady bullets....no one gave me 2 cents.LOL
