rollingb

I'm a real fan of the .17 cals and have been for a very long time. For the past few years I have been shooting a .100" short .17PPC OR the .17DT it is called, The 30gr Kindler Gold BTHP is my bullet of choice when calling, At around 4000fps, it kills em dead and none or very little damage to the Fur. Occassionally I shoot a 22BR using 40gr V-max's at around 4100fps. but I much prefer the .17DT and the 30Gold. For longer range stuff I use a 22-284 and a 6-284, and at night I prefer the 22-284 with the 65gr Berger Match Bullet, for Fox and close in calling stuff I use my 14-221 Walker using 13-15gr bullets, it has proven very deadly on Coyotes under 150yds and almost zero chance of Pelt damage. Good luck this Fur Season, it looks like prices are at a 15 year high. Select Bobcats in the Western Region may see offers over $500 this year, I expect to average $45 on my goods (coyote) and $300 on cats. One things for sure, it sure is Fun to hunt these Predators aint it!

Blaine,.... Yep!!.... It's a bunch of fun alright!!

I'm git'n back "into" coyote hunt'n, after take'n a "leave-of-absence" for awhile. I even got me a regular "bolt 22-250" to modernize my varmit-hunt'n. 20 years ago, when fur prices started fall'n and all tha "wacko's" started crawl'n out of tha "wood-work" with ther spray-paint, I sold all my modern centerfires and hunted/competed strictly with muzzleloaders/antique guns. I first started call'n coyotes in tha "60's", and I fondly remember thet back then, it was possible to call'em in close 'nuff to shoot'em from a "pickup" (if it was partly hidden by tall weeds 'long tha road). At thet time, I was also run'n Greyhounds on coyotes, and trap'n big time. Tho "competition" has got'n tougher, and some "methods" have changed over the years,.... I know tha same "thrill" will still be ther when I see a critter come'n in to tha call, "hell-bent fer leather".

I wish you "good luck, and a great season"!!

Hi Rollingb

Wish all my days were like that one, I'm headed back out sometime this week for a couple days, how has the huntin been for you? I got word that Heavy Late Season Badgers are in Great demand and should price in the $40-$50 range, I say kill anything that has Fur on it this season, except for Beaver, as its not moving well at all right now, If the Feds would lay off the Airgunning a bit, we fellers might just kill a few dogs this year, Man what a waste of a valuable resource.
