Topic: Picked up another deal Posted: 28 May 2004 at 08:03 |

Today, I was on my way out the door from work and one of the guys asked me if I buy handguns. I told him I did, and he reached into a bag and pulled out a N frame S&W with a dull finish and a 6" barrel. It was a Model 28 Hiway Patrolman. He asked if I wanted it and I told him that I wouldn't turn it away, and how much did he want for it. Without blinking an eye he said, "$200." I asked what was wrong with it and he said nothing, it was just that his wife wanted it out of the house. I bought it and took it to the range where I work immediately. It was NO disapointment and shot just great, accurate too. I shot it to 50 yards and it shot like a wet dream. Anyway, I was thinking that it was a good trade because the gun weighs a lot more than that old papre I gave him. By the way, I was shooting Winchester silver tips, the 145 gr variety. Now all I need is a couple of speed loaders and some kind of leather to carry it in.......Kingpin

I have one of those and even shot a deer with it a few years ago. I go back and forth about selling it and getting a new S&W 627 Performance Center 8 shot. Then I think is it really worth the probably $250 bucs for each of the extra two holes in the cylinder if I got $250 for my 28? The 28 shoots nice no doubt about it, not ammo picky at all.

dd, is yours a 6" too? I had one a few years back with a 4" bbl. I wish I still had it. Pardon me for saying, but if you want those two extra holes, just buy it and keep the 28. I just did a trigger job on this one and decided that it's a keeper.....................Kingpin

Just saw one yesterday for $229. About 90%, timing is good and lockup is tight. Sure is tempting.

TG, if I saw it, I would jump on it with both feet, even though I have this one. The 28 is very underated. Most gravitate to the glitzy 27, and there's nothing wrong with them either except the price is almost double. I have my eye on a 27 as we speak. It has the pinned barrel, recessed chambers, and the whole top strap is checkered including the sight. Just biding my time, it will come my way soon enough.........Kingpin

S&W Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman 6" .357. This one has a good trigger on it and I should probably keep it?

DD, no, get rid of it quick, I'll take that old thing off your hands........LOL. Looks like you have a keeper there. Look, I will let you in on how to buy the other one and no one will notice. It's like this, you said your wife has to stay in the hospital until Sunday right? Well, tomorrow, go buy it and "forget" to mention it. Chances are great that she has other things on her mind at the moment other than guns. It's like a free pass. When my son was born, I got a 700 varminter in .243. yep, had it and didn't even get caught until about a year later when I traded it. At least I didn't get a skull fracture with the frying pan. I had a knot for about a week though. Your 28 looks like a real sweet shooter, keep it........................Kingpin

I used my "Free Pass"up today! I didn't have the $750 for the 627 but I had enough for a Kimber .22 1911 conversion for my Kimber Super Match. That was only $250. I shot it a few times when I got home but it was getting pretty dark out. No jams. I've had thee different 1911 conversions and none of them have functiond worth a darn. 2 Colts and a Wilson.
She'll never be able to tell since it's not a whole gun...

I'm lucky I used my "trick" up yesterday. they're letting her and the boy out a day early. Just got the call to go pick them up. I better get the house picked up. I was supposed to be cleaning yesterday intstead of running over to the gun shop. Oops.

Fella's;
That's what I should get, a .22 conversion for my Kimber. And another N frame Smith, and, and, and.
Now if the anal-retentive govt. would just let me print my own money. And if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

Kingpin - Great deal on the Hwy Patrolman. You can't beat an "N" frame S&W in .357 for durability! I'm still lookin' for a cherry one in 4"... best deal I can find around here is equivalent to about $250 US.
I give thumbs up to having a .22 Conversion Unit for a 1911 frame though. Makes for some real fun, inexpensive & accurate plinking...

NH - Anyone who shoots handgun has to own at least one 1911... I still recall my very first impressions of 1911's [way, way back when].... BUTT UGLY and Next to Useless...
Then I bought my first one, a plain jane WWII vintage USGI .45 made by Ithaca, and fired it... And it's been a love affair ever since... Got into collecting them in a big way... here's most of what I had, circa 1998...

[Of course two of the above aren't 1911's - top one is a Colt 1903 Pocket .32ACP and the bottom is a Colt 1903 Pocket .38 ACP]
Sold off most of those in the late '90's, in fact kept only two.... a 1968 mfg Colt Government and a 1942 mfg Colt frame, refinished, with a Colt Series '70 .45ACP top-end and the Colt .22 Conversion Unit [pictured above on that frame]. I've since added a couple more... a 1915 mfg Colt Commercial Government .45 and a 1943 mfg Remington Rand .45... and of course the Colt 'parts gun' that I had refinished and rebuilt with new parts to...

Currently working on a deal to get a nice, cherry Colt Series '70 'Gold Cup National Match' .45 ACP...
And I'm still looking for a Colt Combat Commander in .45ACP, too!
Marcus.
