Bear talking about his .308 got me to thinking.

How many rounds does it take to shoot out a barrel? I understand that it depends on the cartridge but I'm thinking on something like a .308.

I bought a rifle once that the seller said was shot out. I took it home and using Sweets 7.62 cleaned some gawd awful amount of crud out of it and it ended up shooting pretty good.

Depends upon how hot you load.

I had about 4000 round thru mine.  started reloading it HOT.  not good.

I cleaned that barrel 20 time in hope of improving it.

That's a pretty good life.

When I was planning my last rebarrel I was considering a 6.5X284. I read in several places that people were seeing throat erosion between 1000 and 1500 rounds. I talked to a local guy that shoots F class and he started seeing erosion at 700 rounds and lost accuracy at around 800.

I only have 1 rifle that I load a little hot. Most of the time I find an accurate load below max.
