8MM RM bullets come in 200,220 gr bullets. There are smaller 8mm's but there for Mauser speeds.
Some Jacketed lead and some copper, that's it.
BUT .338 bullets come in Many sizes shapes and designs.
We have not tried all copper bullets but we have tried jacketed bullets, running them through the .323 sizer. We are using a Lee resizer press and its aluminum We are afraid it will brake the handle on all copper.
They come out a bit longer but they look "normal".
Load info is off the cuff. We did some 338 lead tip Hornady's 200 gr, I shoot 200 Nosler now as a back up bullet. If a person started a low Nosler load and see what happens. There a different shape bullet, and stick in the lands set at the length we shoot the Nosler's, we would have to back that up a bit too back to SAAM book length.

WAY more possibility's with the 338 including Heaver bullets, 225, 250 gr? HUMM.
We already reform 375 H&H brass for the same reason, easer to find and cheaper then 8MM RM.

I'll try the resized 200's as soon as it get warmer and less wind.Confused

I would not think good of resizing any Nosler Partitions.  The internal structure would not deform uniformly.  and indeed the internal gilding metal web could cause the lead cores to break free from the internal jacket wall.  none of this is conducive to accuracy.

You are correct, be light on the Lee aluminum press.  Lee resizer dies are hardened steel and can take it, but not their presses.  try to get an old RCBS, lots of strength.

I assume you are talking Nosler partitions in .338.  Partitions always are longer than the same weight of normal jacketed bullet, as they have that light weight copper web in the center.

what game animal is your 8mm mag going to be used upon?
and at what intended range?

We did not resize the Noslers, there .323 200 gr bullets. My bad there Speer 338 bullets we sized down.

Game? what ever. Just looking for backups.
I think some kind of Poly tipped lead core bullet in like 250 gr may be a elephant killer, you know just in case.

this month, I Loaded 150 rounds of 225 gr 338 mag, max loads...for a friend's brown bear hunt June 1.

338 mag is similar to the 8 mag.  gulps 72 grains of powder with each shot.

Been about 12 years since I've hunted anything with the 338 mag...i must like it as it is the only cartridge that I have two rifles for it.

I've been able to get speer and Hornady bullets for .338.

few tough bullets made for the 8 mag; most are made for wimpy 8x57 loads.

40+ years ago I use to load for the Euro 8x68S, the early version of the 8 Rem mag.  At that time I could get some heavy bullets made for African game (Norma I seem t remember).  I never used it in Africa, and it was Toooooo   big for anything in the USA.  But a beautiful cartridge, like the 9,3x62.

If for some unknown reason I shoot the barrel out on my 8mm I would re barrel it in 338/375.

So.....basically a hot loaded .375 H&H, yet not a .378 Weatherby....and practically no difference then a hot .375 Ruger for all intents and purposes.....but I guess if you need an oddball, it will fit that bill.

I would think fire forming the H&H brass out to a straightwall, throw a steep angle on it like an AImp and then size down to .35....get you the speed and a better selection of heavies for anything. The 35's are the ugly stepchild and available.....but thats just me.

...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!

again depends upon what you are hunting, most 35 cal bullets are made for the 35 rem!

Am I understanding that you are sizing .338 bullets down to 8mm?

I've never heard of that. Interesting concept.
I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.
