Well I'm about out of Ideas. I've tried 5 different kinds of slugs, and 4 different powders and two kinds of Crimps. The Factory  ( tru-ball, and 50 cal Sabots) shoot better. We've tried all kinds of different components and powder loads and it looks like to me we would be hard prest to hit a deer. Just when we get something we think will work we load more up and then there splattered all over the board??? Driven me nuts. Every thing I have read and seen tells me there not telling us the Whole story. OH well I'll keep on trying.

PS I'm having a similar problem with Large pellet coyote loads too. I have a #4 buck load I've talked about that will kick but out of my 870 in 3 1/2" but only puts a 1/10 of the hits out of the Win 3" type load??? I tryed "F" 22 cal plated lead to tri and help but that won't even do as good in the 3 1/2... I'm going to keep trying on that one too I KNOW I will win!

I did do a good load of #5-#71/2 -2 oz turkey busters I don't know How many hits I get on a turkey target at 60 yards but it's a BUNCH!!!! Like 20 in the head and neck alone. I have a 2 1/4 oz of the same one in  3 1/2 " too, Devastating!!!

Are the slugs from a rifled barrel?

Wondering how a regular round ball would work?  I've shot some out of my 20 guage flintlock shotgun (cylinder bore, natch).  They were not like my flint rifles, but accuracy good enough to let me hunt restricted areas where it is shotgun only.

Both!!!

The all lead foster type lead slugs shoot the best in my smooth 870 Factory sabots work great in the Win 1200 ( rifled). I just wanted to make my own. I was hopping to improve but so far Nata...

d....what about trying a buffer product in with the #4 buck?  It is used with regular shot pellets for turkey loads and duck loads......maybe it will help keep the #4 Buck from "scattering/spreading"?????????????  I don't know what kind of buffer products that are out there.

the other thought is what about the choke you are using?  Have you tried different chokes?

Yes I use #47 buffer in all my large pellets and mica dust to slick every thing up. The choke is important I have the best patters with an extra full and the boy uses a full , we have tried Mod and improved too.
