Once again I want to thank all of you for your input in helping me decide on my first 1911. I ended up with the Kimber Pro CDP II http://www.kimberamerica.com/pistols/cdp/pro_cdp_II/ and the Springfield TRP Armory Kote (no rail) http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=26 Now that I have shot them both I am soooooo hooked on 1911s that it looks like a lot of nights on the couch….Kidding. The wife actually was behind the purchase and gave her blessing to go ahead and get the second one. I knew I married a good one!!!! Range report: 200 rounds of FMJ (Blazer, Winchester, and Fiocchi) through each of them without a hiccup. Waiting on some Gold Dot and Remington JHPs to see what they like. I shot free hand mostly at 30 feet with about 50 rounds at 45 feet. Both guns are very accurate with about a ½ to 1 inch favor going to the TRP. The TRP is dead on and the Kimber shoots about an inch low. Both factory mags performed well as did the Wilson eight rounders I also purchased. Now so I don’t sound like the MSM, the Wilsons are a bit sticky going into the TRP but will fly out when ejected and they stick out a bit far on the Kimber. The Kimber is a breeze to break down. The TRP is not so easy due to it being so damn tight which is great for accuracy but hard on the fingers during disassembly. Overall I am extremely pleased with both pistols and would recommend them to anyone as they are both finely made pistols. One day I may end up getting a custom (Wilson, Les Baer, Nighthawk etc.) but for now the TRP is tossing out inch and a half freehand groups at 30 feet, which is just fine for me. |

BigAl; I've been using the Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8-round stainless mags for years in my gun, never a hiccup. And, they're just a bit less money than the Wilson mags. You might pick up a couple & give 'em a try. 900F |

BigAl, Be judicious with the mags you use in your Kimber. Those with metal, two deck followers can damage the aluminum feed ramp on the CDP. My factory mags were of that sort, and if shooting full power loads, the follower would dig into the feed ramp with recoil. I changed to Wilson 47Ds and it solved the problem. Plastic no longer is just for wimmins panties. It also works well as a 1911 magazine follower. Edited by Muleskinner |

CB, I also wanted some McCormicks but they did not have any on hand at the store but I'm sure I can find some online to try. Mule, thanks for the answer to a question of mine about the Kimber factory mag...the follower looks and feels nasty rough. I do have the 47DCs.
