Well, I'm stoked!!!

After an approximately 25 year wait I finally snagged a WWII USGI 1911A1 made by the Union Switch & Signal company. This one's an early one, by the serial number 1,047,XXX it's in the first 5,700 produced of 55,000 total production in 1943.....

They're hard to find up here North of the 49th!

Theyre not too easy to come by down here either. Specially in that condition. Looks good.

about 20 years ago they were on the low end of "desirable" by collectors.  They were a little cheaper than other mfgs.  I worked for US & S. and lots of guys were buying them because of the company connection.  They were made in Swissvale Pennsylvania.  The  was started in the 1800s by George Westinghouse.  The company made electrical train control equipment, but the word Switch in the name was for mechanical railway track switch machines.  Still in business but owned by Italians, they haven't made guns since the WW-2 contracts.

Congratulations, I think you got a bit of history and a nice gun at the same time.
