Last week, I picked up a 1911, stamped "US" with a 1911 slide on it. It has adjustable target rear sight and a very high front sight, match barrel and bushing. I got it with the intention of customizing it, It's a little sad finish wise, but everything is tight. Now it's starting to grow on me and I'm not sure whether to make it into a work of art or leave it as is, a classic. I wish I would have stripped it instead of leaving it lay on my desk for a week. I am torn between two agonizing desires. Kind of like, having all the money in the world and getting a fat chick to plastic surgery her ass into a Christy Brinkly type.......................................Kingpin

  Sounds like a win win deal no matter which way you go with 1911's ya can't go wrong,unless it's one of the rare ones,then I'd go classic. I say ya start off with a skinny chick that way you'd have some cash left over for the 1911.

Kingpin;

There's really nothing else to do but pick up another 1911 G.I. .45 & then make the decision.  Of course, that may require yet another purchase - etc, etc,.

Purchasing them is no problem, but we all know guys who want to sell their gun for the same price as a year old porshe. They ALL call on me every three days or so, dangling their $400 prize for $800 plus, and me running them off as soon as possible. LOL, they swear that their pistols are solid gold, just painted over, or the gun that killed the Kaiser or some other whopper. OH, I figure another one will come along soon that will be more desireable and affordable. They usually do.......Kingpin

Kingpin - Since the mods on the slide have already started it might not be too bad to continue if that makes you happy. Then again it might be worthwhile to research the serial number & see what you have. Being Stateside you have the luxury of access to the myriad of 1911 parts. 'Course you could always restore it to 'original' form by picking up a correct slide, etc. Maybe keep the custom top end and also have a GI top end for it but leave the frame stock. Kinda "best of both worlds".

Here's one of my latest finds... a 1944 Remington-Rand USGI frame with a WWI era Colt USGI slide. Barrel is a WWII HS military that's been throated a bit to better feed some of the modern .45ACP bullet profiles. Finish is minimal but to me it has "character". Should make a good "shooter"... Only thing I'm planning on doing is putting on some better USGI plastic grips...

Regards, Marcus.

I think the last owner used it as a bullseye gun, due to the sights. I may get back into bullseys shooting, and now I have a gun that will work for it. About the only thing i will miss from my other 1911's will be the beaver tail. Which is not allowed in bullseye. I am goung to shoot it when I get back home. The barrel bushing fit is as tight as i ever saw one that I didn't fit, so it may hold a few surprises. I'll let you know ho it shoots.........Kingpin

I am trading for a 1911 tuned by Bob Chou. I imagine it will shoot.
