my favorite to fish is a tie between northern pike, catfish and (any species of) trout.

my favorite to eat is walleye!

HMMMMM favorite fish to catch ???? or eat ?????? I enjoy fishing for northern pike a lot...simply because of the size and the fact that they're downright mean fish.  But they are relatively easy to catch (sometimes).

If i want to frustrate myself I'll head to the mountains and try to fly fish for some trout. Rainbows, brook trout and cuthroats mostly.  Thers nothing worse than trout rising all around you and not being able to match whatever the heck they're eating.

I agree with Tas on walleye being the finest eating that I have caught.

I have a friend. I love northern. They are a pain in the arse to fillet, but I think they are one of the better tasting by far!

Stupid people are like a slinky, they don't serve much purpose in the world but they sure are fun to watch tumble down the stairs!

i should have added that perch, being closely-related to walleye, are VERY good eating, in spite of their smaller size. a mess of perch fillets are EXCELLENT!

Any fish you catch is a fun fish. That includes those little 1 inch bass and perch I get all summer long around here. Most fish taste darn good when cooked right. I'm almost getting the itch to go out this weekend, but it's cold, and I'm lazy.

bryce -

i have seen a couple of different ways to fillet northerns so that they are totally boneless. probably one of the best was to hold the fish upright (as if he is swimming) and start just behind the head, slicing down to the backbone across the back, rather than on one side or the other. then fillet from this cut to the tail, if i remember correctly. from there, ya just need to fillet the sides like normal and cut longitudinally down the fillet, separating the bony part from the boneless part. i might be able to find pictures. if i do, i will post them.....

Northern do take a special touch do do right. It is something I have yet to master. Post some info if you find it, I'll try to memorize it over the winter.

welcome, d4570! good to see you here, and looking forward to hearing from you on fishing in your area!

this website was originally started as a fishing site, and it is good to see a few fishermen joining up. be sure to check out some of our other boards, especially the BSB roll call, which is where we all "hang out" and trade pleasnatries, pass along news or current events, and general BS.

once again, welcome! and if you have any questions, just ask!

p.s. regarding posting pictures, you can either upload a picture from your desktop or post one that is already on the internet. if you need help, just ask or do a search on posting pictures. once you get the hang of it, post a bunch of em!
