  Not for us anyway.

You folks that have been here for a few years remember when we found out Tazzy our Lab had the big C. Since then she has fought all odds,3 years ago the dog Cancer center in Memphis said she didn't have long to go. Well we went back to our small town vet to face what we were up against(give me a small town Doc anyday),like I said that was 3 years ago and here she still is. She's had 3 surgery's to remove tumors and keep her on the run ,which she has done like a champ, there has been no holdn' this dog down shes a tuff old girl.

Mondays the day she's going to be with her Momma Kimber and of course we'll all lose it for awhile, especially her best friend Dixie our 4 year old Lab . I just thank the guy upstairs for the extra few years we got to have her around.

I feel for you Tikka. I don't know if my big yellow lab, Rocky, will be around much longer either. He's developed either inoperable tumors or polyps around his anus. Vet says he could be around a while but at 12 the prognosis isn't good. I think my 3 year old black will be lost too. He was absolutely beside himself when we went to the vet a few weeks back. The only good part of this is that Tazzy had the caring owner that all dogs deserve. Sounds like she paid you back in spades. RD

Tikka,

I really don't know what to say. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear this! I’ve been there myself. I had to put down my last dog just over 7 years ago. I just couldn’t except he had cancer & was dying. He quit eating so I forced fed to keep him alive for me! Until he got in so much pain I had to call the Vet! Tears still come to my eyes thinking about it...............

Thanks for all the kind words folks ,one of the good things that comes from the internet is the friendships you wind up with, it really helps at times like these.

Last night was kinda cool,Tazzy always liked a little beer with me now and then,as a matter of the way she was whenever she smelled a beer being opened you'd swear you were waving a steak in front of her nose. Not that we gave her beer all the time, once in a while. Anyway we grilled some ribeyes last night and she had her own grilled with just a dash of salt and after we got done me and her sat out in the breezway and shared a Rolling Rock or two, just two old hunters saying goodbye. We take her in today at 4:45 and her jorney will end here and she'll go hunt with her Momma.  Being a dog nut does have it's ups and downs.

Another friend sent me this and it kinda hit just right, thought I'd share it with you folks just in case you ever need it.

 A Dog's Prayer.

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand;
Don't let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
The time has come please let me go.
Take me where my need they'll tend
And please stay with me until the end,
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you did for me
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve, it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

                       " To bury a dog "

"It is all one to the dog, and all one to you, and nothing is lost-if memory lives. But there is one best place to bury a dog.

If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call-come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well-remembered path and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they shall not growl at him, nor resent his coming for he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by this foot-fall, who hears no whimper, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them, for you shall know something that is hidden from them, and which is worth the knowing. The one best place to bury a dog is in the heart of his master. "
