some people, when they go camping, want the bare essentials to survive and be comfortable. food, a sleeping bag, maybe a tent, maybe not. usually, they will also bring fishing gear, a journal and/or a camera. cook over a fire rather than a camp stove, and stuff like that. i would have to say that i fall into this category.

others like to bring along the whole house and the kitchen sink. everything from gadgets to sattelite dishes to generators. to me, this isn't exactly camping.

probably the best of both worlds lies in the middle, with enough to be comfortable, safe and also to have fun, but where do you guys sit on this fence?

If it were up to me I'd take a small tent, fishing and/or hunting gear, comfy shoes and firestarting aids. Maybe an extra shirt or sweatshirt. BUT, with a wife and kids we wind up with a truckfull and a half with the kitchen sink wedged in there somewhere. Better than staying home I guess.

Stupid people are like a slinky, they don't serve much purpose in the world but they sure are fun to watch tumble down the stairs!

I travel with a primitive camp most times. I used to do a winter sojourn in the Mission Mountains in February, with what I could carry on my back. That was my birthday present to my self each year. I'm a bit older now, and am not as tough. I like my wall tent , or wedge tent now, preferably with the stove in colder weather. I've even recently gone to a pellet stove set up I don't have to get up and stoke the fire at night. The class A trailers the tourists use are definitely not camping.

CB hit it on the head.I have found the same, most blokes go light(except for a couple of fishing mates who take an ice maker and their beer in kegs)but when you take women the equipment list rises.

Also as waksupi said age does tell a bit,I like a roll between my swag and the ground nowadays.

Hey waksupi you are closing in on that 1000!!!
