My Nephew, his son-in-law, Step Son and I went on a week long Sturgeon Fishing Trip. Everyone caught Sturgeon and we all had a ball. Total Sturgeon for the week= 19 I was lucky enough to hook into seven. We didnt keep track of the trout, bass, and perch we caught. all fishing was catch and release.

We all had a ball! A solid week of Fishing and Family interaction. The Sturgeon were not huge, but ran  six feet, and the largest was seven feet seven inches. About 200 pounds (according to a chart I have) The guy is normal size, the Rod is a heavy action ugly stick twelve feet long, the spinning reel is a Pen spinfisher V 2500, loaded wit 80lb braid. we used 8/0 barbless circle hooks, and 8-10 ounce sinkers to hold in the current. We all had the same outfits.

If you ever get a chance to fish for Sturgeon, Take it! You will never regret it, they never give up the fight untill you get them in, and turn them belly up. I am a confirmed Sturgeon Fishing nut.

We fished right between the spillway and the power turbines of the CJ Strike Dam. Right outside of a little town in the desert called Grand View It's really close to the Air Force Base, I get the added pleasure of watching the different types of Jets do their fly byes while i'm fishing. I parked my trailer about 25 yards from the bank . It's like a little campground there, trailer and tent sites, super clean restrooms, but no trailer hookups. Great place to fish. right on the Snake River.

My Uncle Ed lived in Ontario, OR and we used to go near there catfishing on Snake and camping. I'd go with kids and meet folks there, it was about halfway between here and there. I remember it used to get HOT there in summer, but you could load up on eating sized cats.

The weather down there right now is Brutal. The catfish are biting really good now, I can't go fishing again untill Fall, My wife can't take the heat. She is subject to heat strokes when it's this hot (triple digits) I try to balance my fall fishing time between sturgeon and getting ready for the big game season. Ontario  is just  an hour away from where I live.
