A couple of months ago I bought a model 17 no dash. This one was made in 1959 and is in really good condition. I finally got a chance to shoot it today.

I would like to start by saying I am alot older than 16 years old. I hear 16 year old kids use the word "Sweet" to describe alot of things. I very seldom use that word. One more thing is that I am not that good of a shot. I do shoot quite a bit but I am much better with a rifle than I am with any hand gun. With hand guns I am adequit at best.

I headed out to the range and when I got there their was a hunters safety class having their field day so their was a whole bunch if booger picking kids all over the place so I figured I would leave it with them and go out to a place a few miles out of town where people go to shoot.

Their is a steel plate target 100 yards from where I parked so I grabbed a pocket full of bulk remington long rifles and walked closer to it.

I got about 50 yards from the target and figured what the heck. I took a shot. PING. Cool. I shot 5 more 5 more PINGS. Really cool. I thought to myself, "This thing is SWEET"

I walked on up to it and noted that someone had recently shot a coat of flourescent orange paint on it. I paced off 25 yards and shot 6 rounds. I shot into an area that had fresh paint and after the first shot I didn't really make any other spots, the one spot just got a little bigger. This thing really shoots.

I spent a couple more hours shooting peices of clay pidgeons that were left on the ground. It seems like I couldn't miss.

I had brought about 3/4 of two different bricks. One was Remington and the other one was federal. They both shot equally well.
These really do make me look like a better shooter than I really am. I think I have a new favorite gun.

This thing is SWEET.

bought mine when in 1961, new cost me $62.  I was/is very accurate.  I bought it to shoot in the local pistol league.  Many of the guys were using them, and as a team we did well, even against the high Standards.  Back then high velocity was extra in 22 LR, but the cheaper 'standard' velocity rem were very accurate.

The K22 model 17 is still my sweetheart.

For about 10 years I used it as my walk around chipmunk gun and used it much like a Montana gopher hunt.  The little chippies really spun when hit.  I suspect that made me a better shooter/hunter than range time.

Wing...your getting hooked on wheel guns!

I think you are right Bear. Just a few years ago I didn't give wheel guns a second thought.

A couple of years ago I inherited a model 19 S&W. A while later I took it out and shot it and thought "Hey, This is a really cool gun."

19 Smith & Wessons later here I am and finally found one that shoots like I have heard the target models do.

I have two K-38's I have never shot either one of them. I plan on taking at least one of them out and shooting it real soon to see how it shoots.

I am getting hooked on wheel guns.

Neighbor shot a turkey last year at 72 paces with one.....swear he sleeps with that damned thing. Was shooting with him and my nephew yesterday and he complained constantly about how much he would rather have been shooting it then his XD-9 4-5 inches at 25 yards was his best with it vs 1-1 1/2 inchers with the 22.

Just for shits and giggles, I took my sons 92f out and cut a 3 inch long 1/2 inch wide at 25 with 10 rounds....then told him maybe he just had too much gun to handle correctly........Kid competes in tri-athalons and dwarfs me so it was just funny to see his face wrinkle when I said it.
...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!

About 20 years ago my bro' and I were walking the farm, any a very large ringneck started across a plowed field in front of us.  I gave him my K-22 and said take a shot, figuring a close miss and see the bird jump and fly.  He hit it perfectly in the head.

He and I both remember that shot...pheasant tasted delicious.

900f,

I thought about 100 times "I think I could hit a gopher with this".

It will be the first thing loaded for the MYGAWDS trip.

Wing;

Sometime in the distant mists of the past, an S&W617 6" ten-shot followed me home.  If I'm gonna shoot it against you, I probably need to get my butt in gear & put a red dot on it.  Otherwise, with my eyes, there's no hope.

Wing, my heart soars for you. I got just about the same revolver a couple of years ago from a guy for $200. No dash on mine either. It's a bullet squirt gun and it sure is a very manly feeling handgun, unlike some .22's. Now you are in for a real problem if yu decide to try to feed it. I saw cheap .22 ammo at the last gunshow going for $80 a brick. That gun should last you more than three lifetimes though. If you can, post a pic. I sure would LOVE to look at it....................................Kingpin
