I have had a pair of Danner Pronghorns for 7-8 years. They have been comfortable and I really like them but they have seen better days.

I could get another pair and probably like them just as much but do you guys have any others that you would recommend?

Price point?
I have a set of Kenetrek Mountain Extreme with 400 grams of insolation. Pricey but I have had them for 14 years, the sole wore out and I sent them back and they completely re built the boot even new laces. $120 they pay the freight. Should last another 14 years, maybe longer. I'll be 80 years old my then...Clap

My preference is light weight boots without a so-called Virbam sole.  those cleats catch dirt/mud and make cleaning a problem.  Sure they have more traction...but if I am climbing rocks/cliffs I wear my climbing boots.

Using Dale and Jim's and Greg'srecommendations I went to Sheel's for a pair of Kenetrac boots.  Nice looking boot, and it was about $525.  People there were great, they let me wear a pair around the store for 1/2 hour, nice sales proceedure.

Kennetrek's are made in Italy and I liked the leather quality.  Seemed to fit niceely.  But they were clumsy for me to walk in, too rigid.  And after 1/2 hour I had sever foot cramps (pain).  Upon further investigation I found they had a rigid fiberglass insole... no flex.  I passed, but lots of folks love them.

I use to buy LaCroses hunting and work boots for about 40 years.  then they changed to Made IN China and were syn, not leather.  Bought a pair for spring turkey season, the second season they leaked badly; and this was in just waalking   400 yards in fields of morning dew.  Called the company, and they said it was past one year (14 months, wore twice total  12 hours), no warranty.  I pitched the boot and permanently quit buying LaCrosse footwear.

I have three pair of hunting boots.

Sorel packs, great for sitting all day in duck blind or deer stand when temp is -5 to 32 oF.  not good walkerss.

Rocky Bear Claw  waterproof and insulated (1000 gr).  A great boot, heavy, dry, and comfortable.  Good again for setting.  Heaavy.

Rocky Pro-Hunter.  syn with goretex and 400 gr insul.  My walking around boots. light weight, stays dry.  I use them for rainy days in WY and in Pa, NY.

I find that hunting socks are as important as proper hunting boots.

For many years Dunham's dura-flex leather boot was the best, gone import.

I also use a PEET boot drier.  keeps my feet warmer on multi day hunts to dry boots every night.

Your boots will last a LOT longer if you use a boot dryer.

I spray my boots with silicone, then put Snowproof wax/grease on them.  let dry in sun.  for leather boots.

syn boots silicone only.

Damp boots inside are COLD boots.  the drier I have is really a 10 watt bulb, dries but doesn't seem to 'dry out leather.

love leather for comfort.

Thanks guys.

I think Kennetrek might be above my price range.

I have had a couple pairs of Rocky Boots and for some reason they hurt like hell after a day of walking in them. Evidently they don't fit my feet or something.

I have always worn my new hunting boots to work for a couple days to break them in. On a busy day I walk about 13000 steps. This breaks in the boots and I know how comfortable they are before going out hunting.

I think I'll go to a couple local shops and try on a few different pairs. I probably should go back with something I know works. I never did do anything to condition the leather on the Danners. They would probably last longer if I did.

Thanks again guys.

Danners Are a good boot.
Have you ever changed the foot bed?
May be a good insert will help.
IF you have room in side.
I like a boot that laces to the toe.
I can adjust the fit for light socks or heavy winter ones. If you have a sore spot skip the lace hole, hook to ease up on the presser in that spot.
My feet are as flat as a fence board and I have 3/4 Rx inserts.

Yep, like D  I have orthotics in all my boots.  New Balance are what I use, $55, but they work.

I tried on a few different pairs including Danners. It's hard to tell walking in a store but the Danners felt the most comfortable. I think I'll stick with them. I'm hoping to find a black Friday sale on them somewhere.
