Riveting a boat hull any insight or tips ?
I have to get a little construction job finished on My house first.
A cantilevered closet.
Then I'm going to start my "cat" hulls.
I'm building my Catrermeran style mini air boat.

I'm using a two part epoxy made for aluminum with an hour workable window.
I'll have the holes all drilled to keep the joint clean.
To prep the "AL" I'll sand them with 120 paper and clean it with Acetone
and rinse with distilled water as per instruction .
I have an air hammer and set and a buck.
Any tricks ? How many rivets ? Ext ?

d....maybe go on one of the major aluminum riveted boats website and see if they say in the ad....."# rivets per inch" or some such thing. Or go out and check your aluminum canoe and count how many rivets per inch they used. Keep in mind there is no great pressure on a canoe like may be found on your "cats" under power.

Keep on Keeping on!

see if anything here is of value to your search:

I pussyed out.!
I'm having the hulls 3 pieces welded.
An extra $150 for peace of mind....
I will glue and rivet all the supports and front "Rake" on as well as the tubing around the top...

Sounds like a bargain in strength.

Once picked up 2 guys and a lab holding on to a homemade
plywood sunk duckboat. It was about 10oF with skim ice on the
swamo; seems their glued and tacked plywood seams de-laminated
and they were just floating on the plywood sheets...guns and
dog on top. the skim ice was the cause. my riveted and half
welded aluminum held up fine. Mean dog!

I've had one riveted boat and a couple of welded ones. The welded ones never leaked, the riveted one was mostly dry, at first, after a few years, the water was mostly below the ribs.

You made the right call.
