Seems when I fly for hunting, I seem to want to take more than 1-2 guns.
Airlines have a generally 50# weight limit. The case I have is comfortable for 2 rifles with scope. Anyone know of a good case that would hold 3 rifles, comfortable and still be easily dragged thru airports???

Bear don't know the answer to you question ,but I have one of my own for you since you've been there .
Have you ever flown to go hunting ,and when you open your gun case get that little tag that say's they been in your case to look and whatever it is they do ? And to top it all off find your stock screws loose ,like they took it apart for whatever reason ? Happened twice to my son , leaving here and headed back home. He gets to his airport gets to the car and the stock mounting screws are loose . What are they trying to do ?

i really don't know.
My case has been on at least 50 airline flights, 6 or 7 out of country; over the past 20 years. Last flights were 9 months ago 6 segments; including Denver, Pittsburgh, NY; Minneapolis; and Montana. Never a problem. Lots of things change. 12 years ago, TSA would inspect every gun case. and touch your rifles, even check to see if they were loaded. A few years later, TSA was NOT allowed to touch your guns, they would call local police to even check if they were loaded; nonsense. For the last 6 years TSA does not look into your case...merely asks if it is empty, and do you have the "pink" form signed inside the case? Today TSA runs the gun check-in, not the airline. No real hassle, just a few extra steps to the TSA station at the baggage check-in line. They run an alcohol swab; and put the swab in a machine. Don't know what it checks, nor does the TSA guy. Since I carry ammo, black powder guns, etc. I think it does nothing, never had any signals go off. After that case is put on the belt and off it goes...now under airline control. I doubt there is any other check; as that would open the airline up to liability. Now airline just says "TSa inspected it and said OK". I should say, most people don't understand how much vibration there is on a jetliner. I've had brass shells vibrate enough to cut/machine the brass case where it is contacting hard plastic reloading boxes. Sounds like it is very possible that your son'd rifle just vibrated loose????? All ammo should have the case/box in heavy contact with some neoprene or sponge plastic on the top od rounds to dampen the virbation. just some thoughts Edited by BEAR - 27 March 2018 at 08:46 |
