Well, it has been a heck of a year, with some real financial struggles, but it looks like I am on the other side of it, so I went out and bought myself a present. I have wanted a full size .45 for a while now, and waded through all of the different models and such. I already have a compact 1911, so I didn't want a full sized just yet, and I wanted something I can put a light on at some point. I had it boiled down between a Glock 21SF (slim frame, smaller than a regular Glock 21 grip) and the Smith and Wesson M&P .45. On Friday I wandered into my favorite gunshop, and saw an M&P .45 in the case, slapped the smallest backstrap in it (it has 3 different sized backstraps to allow for different sized hands), and the gun fit like a glove. I had handled the pistol at a gunshow that I helped the guy at, and it didn't feel right, but with the smallest backstrap it was perfect. So I worked a deal with the guy and walked out with the pistol for $550, which I think is a very reasonable price. It is the TALO edition, which I don't really know what that means but it comes with 1 10 rd magazine and 1 14 rd magazine. The 14 is pretty ridiculous looking in the gun, and I don't think I will buy another one, but it should be a fun range toy. At some point I am going to pick up a Crossbreed Supertuck holster for it to conceal it, as I have one for my Glock 19 that makes the gun just disappear. I also want to start doing some IDPA and IPSC stuff, so the .45 should be a decent gun for that as well. I think a Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light is also in my future, as well as a set of decent night sights. Any suggestions on those? Here are a couple pictures of my new toy with the 14 rd magazine in it. The 10 rd mag doesn't protrude from the mag well at all, so that is what will reside in it most of the time. I may keep the 14 in it for nightstand duty however, as another 4 rounds of .45 never hurt anyone (except on the receiving end of course

"I think a Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light is also in my future" I have one on my 45, mine is one from before strobe option was available, I wish mine had strobe on it. Be aware holsters are a pain to find that fit well with lights. I leave light on for bedside and truck use, I have second holster for carry without light. If I was to replace mine, I would get either the TLR-3 (compact) or TLR-2 (with laser) either one with strobe option on light. |

with the 14rd mag in place it reminds me of my cordless drills......
![]() I have fired a few mags thru an M&P 9m/m & it shoots nice and feels good too, for me the small grips were OK....never tried the others. Let us know how that .45 scores with you. |

I have the M&P 9mm as well as the .40...love them both. I use the medium grip and the wife likes the small grip. The ergonomics of the grip causes less perceived recoil and thus more accurate shooting. IE the M&P .40 jumps about as much as the Glock 9mm and best of all no more gotchas from the glock slides.
